Rahm's brother

Dr. Emanuel blames the Hippocratic Oath for
 the "overuse" of medical care.

As a bioethicist, he has written extensively about who should get medical care, who should decide, and whose life is worth saving. Dr. Emanuel is part of a school of thought that redefines a physician’s duty, insisting that it includes working for the greater good of society instead of focusing only on a patient’s needs. Many physicians find that view dangerous, and most Americans are likely to agree.

Remember Sarah Palin talking about death panels and the liberals ridiculed her?  They're there! The Western Center for journalism reminds us  of when Obama told a daughter whose 104 year old mother was still enjoying life 5 years after getting a pacemaker that maybe Mama should have just taken a pain pill? Obama stated quite succinctly that it is just not worth spending money on the elderly.  Read about it.

Senate Minority Leader

"Mitch McConnell would rather rule in Hell than serve in Heaven. He’d rather be minority leader, than have a Republican Senate majority without him. Mitch McConnell is the thug in the bar who controls through intimidation. He badgers, bullies, threatens, and cajoles others into giving him his way. Because of his position, most yield to his intimidation. And when others do not yield, he goes after their associates."

Why? Because he is fighting fellow Republicans who have stood up. He is furious that the Senate Conservatives Fund endorsed his Republican opponent over him and he now has taken aim against any Republican who has used that firm.

ArtFest at the Lake Worth Beach

Folks, the city commission in conjunction with the CRA made a decision several years ago that Lake Worth would become an artists' destination. The next festival invades our beach park. A few positives of having the venue at the beach is that it should bring more parking revenue, more visitors to shop and dine at our Casino and  Pier as well as attracting a few new people to our beautiful beach park.

WHAT: Lake Worth Beach ArtFest

WHERE: 10 South Ocean Boulevard – Lake Worth Beach Complex

WHY: To Support the Arts and the Lake Worth Beach community

ADMISSION: Free and open to the public

Scenes from Bryant Park and the Coffee Clutch

Comment Up

Attended by an enthusiastic small group of neighbors who care about Bryant Park, the second coffee was held this morning at the south pavilion. Some of those attending were Susan and Ozzie Ona, Herman and Laurel Robinson, June Evans, Katie and Randy McGiveron, Mark Parrilla, BarbaraJean Weber, Pam Perini, Rosann Malakates and her husband, Marshall Pass, Maurici Luz and Helen Marino. Forgive me if I failed to mention you. We all enjoyed the camaraderie, the coffee and especially Katie's quiche.

Everyone in the neighborhood association is passionate about keeping this beautiful park exactly the way it is depicted in the photos above-- beautiful--free of trash, slum, blight and commerce.

SHOOTING--13139195700--700 BLOCK N L ST--Palm Beach County Sheriff--11/1/2013 3:04:00 AM

Now look, I know we don't get too excited these days about crime--there is so much of it that much of it is never reported in the news. The city administration along with some of their supporters are thrilled with the PBSO and an amendment to their contract is up on Tuesday. The Sheriff's Department has 5 vehicles driving around all day long. We don't see them in our neighborhood as little crime is out this way and those who have contacted me say they seldom see any in their neighborhoods either. Hopefully, they are cruising the hot spots.

ObamaCare

Notes from an Obama administration meeting about the problem-plagued ObamaCare website indicate only six people signed up for the health care law on its first day, according to documents released by the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee.

Lake Worth beats Atlantic

Atlantic High School Marching band

Last night--what a game!...but it's always "what a game" when you win. And that we did on a great night for football--Lake Worth beat Atlantic Community High School located in Delray Beach 35/32, the last game of the season.

Special recognition was given to Seniors before the game as well as at half-time.  Donte Fils-Aime ran for 178 yards.  And just think--he will be back next year! It was a special rivalry last night as Principal, George Lockhart's brother is the principal of Atlantic High.

Cultural Diversity Celebration

Comment Up

Well, our shuffleboard court building needs to be used for something as the city of Lake Worth turned it over to the CRA. "They" keep telling us we need to celebrate cultural diversity. Isn't it all this diversity that has caused the slum, blight and crime in this city?  Bring your Spanish language dictionary.

A Thief by any other name...

We keep hearing sob story after sob story as to why 47 million people need hand-outs. Many do, no question about it and the government bends over backwards for those who are needy. But now it's some Walmart worker who stole lottery tickets that she says was to pay off  her student loan. We believe that one just like we believe her reason why she committed theft and sympathize that she was given a loan for higher education, got it, and then decided to default to let the taxpayers pick up her tab. Current rates on student loans for undergraduates are at 3.86%.

BankRate says--The federal government currently offers four basic types of repayment plans.
Current repayment plans:
  • The standard plan lets students pay the same fixed amount each month ($50 per month minimum).
  • An extended plan stretches payments across 12 years to 25 years (available only for borrowers with loans totaling more than $30,000).
  • A graduated plan requires lower payments in the first few years, and then the payments are increased every two years until the loan term is up.
  • An income-contingent plan assigns payment amounts based on a percentage of the graduate's annual income (anywhere from 4 percent to 25 percent).
Currently, the poverty level for a single person is about $11,000 according to BankRate. So at 150 percent, the income floor is about $16,000. "That would mean that payments would be 15 percent of any income over $16,000." So, if this Walmart worker earns $16,000 or less per year, she will have no payments until she starts earning more.

Isn't education supposed to make you smarter?

Quote of the Day - Allen West

"Silly me, I thought a trained and ready force needed to be proficient in its war fighting tasks in order to fight and win our nation’s wars – that was what mattered for mission success. It seems this new perspective on our military is based upon the misguided progressive socialist vision of social egalitarianism."

Boynton Beach's Leisureville hires top land-use attorney

Comment Up

The Boynton Beach commission voted in a four story Holiday Inn out near Leisureville and Ocean Drive.  Those residents who have spoken out against a commercial enterprise next door to their neighborhood have hired Ralf Brookes attorney. He is a legal expert in land use and development litigation.

If you recall, Mr. Brookes is also the attorney for Laurel Decker who was chair of the Respectful Planning Political Action Committee whose efforts kept the downtown of Lake Worth to 45 feet east of Dixie and 35 feet west to the Loop when the vote was won on March 12, 2013 by 55.86%.  At this moment no one can build higher than 45 feet in downtown Lake Worth.

As one Leisureville resident, Sandy Peterson-Hardt, said, "It is the job of those (elected officials) who listen  to the people to present their (residents) ideas to the developer...they have to determine what is right or wrong...that didn't happen."  Sandy, we feel your pain. Elected officials represent themselves or come up with all sorts of excuses why a developer can do what he wants. The biggest one is "we can't stop development on private property."

Why can't cities tighten up their land development regulations, stop giving waivers and exceptions and protect residential neighborhoods as well as our waterfront skylines ( the chapel By the Sea in West Palm Beach comes to mind)?  How do elected officials totally ignore people they represent and especially, in the case of Lake Worth, the vote?
