Mass layoffs outlined by the likes of Amazon and UPS meant last month was the worst January for job cut announcements since the Great Recession, new data showed Thursday.
US-based employers announced 108,435 job cuts in January, a threefold increase from layoff announcements in December and more than double what was tallied in January a year earlier, according to Challenger, Gray & Christmas’ latest monthly report.

Major U.S. corporations are cutting jobs in early 2026 to reverse over-hiring from 2020-2021, reduce costs amid inflation, and restructure for artificial intelligence (AI) investments. Companies like Amazon, UPS, and Intel are downsizing to eliminate corporate bloat, increase efficiency, and boost profitability despite having solid stock performance.
Blame your job cuts complaint on the corporations instead of Trump.
