CCP is “actively targeting U.S. political systems, all the way down to local elections"

Termites don’t announce themselves; they work quietly, invisibly, gnawing at the foundation while the homeowners sleep soundly above. By the time you notice the damage, the structure is already compromised.

For years, Americans have watched with growing unease as reports trickle out about elected officials and their staff maintaining troubling connections to foreign powers. We’ve been told we’re paranoid, xenophobic. You know, supposedly seeing shadows where none exist.

Then a case comes along that proves the shadows are very real indeed.

This week, a California man named Yaoning “Mike” Sun was sentenced to four years in federal prison for acting as an illegal agent of the Chinese Communist Party. Sun, 65, spent years spreading CCP propaganda, conducting surveillance on behalf of Beijing, and—perhaps most troubling—helping to elect a local politician in Southern California.

Sun wasn’t some distant operative working in the shadows; he served as campaign treasurer for Eileen Wang, now the mayor of Arcadia, California. Court documents reveal he was also her fiancé.
