Now a fraud expert just testified before Congress with a number so big it makes every other Washington scandal look like a rounding error. He told senators the government is bleeding $1 trillion a year – and then turned around and said that figure is probably too low.

When he sits down in front of Congress, members listen. At Senator Josh Hawley's Homeland Security Subcommittee, Talcove put a number on it: criminals are stealing $115 million every single hour from American taxpayers – roughly $1 trillion a year, nearly 14 percent of the entire federal budget.

Hawley asked him where that money actually goes.

Talcove's answer was blunt: "It goes to terrorism, it goes to child trafficking, it goes to drugs – and then it's used to purchase luxury items, cars, purses, homes. That's all funded by people like me that pay taxes."
