Senate approves $901B defense package amid boat strike, airspace debates
The Senate just pushed through a massive defense bill that’s got more drama than a reality TV finale.On Wednesday, the Senate voted 77-20 in a bipartisan show of force to pass the National Defense Authorization Act, a whopping $901 billion package, sending it straight to President Donald Trump for his signature, as Fox News reports.
This annual bill, typically a snooze-fest of routine funding for defense priorities, hit some serious turbulence this year with contentious provisions sparking heated debates in both the House and Senate.
One sticking point was a provision rolling back safety measures in Washington, D.C., airspace, especially contentious after a tragic collision earlier this year between a Black Hawk helicopter and a passenger jet near Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport, which claimed 67 lives.
