Deputy ATF Director: Resign or be fired

Leadership shake-up continues as ATF deputy director Marvin Richardson resigns

A significant leadership transition unfolds at the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives as veteran official Marvin Richardson steps down from his position.

According to Newsmax, Richardson, who served as ATF's deputy director, resigned late Wednesday after being presented with an ultimatum to either voluntarily leave or face removal from his position.

The resignation follows closely on the heels of another major leadership change at the agency. Just a day before Richardson's departure, FBI Director Kash Patel was removed from his role as acting ATF director by the Trump administration, with Army Secretary Daniel Driscoll stepping in as his replacement.

The Justice Department has appointed Robert Leider, a George Mason University law professor with expertise in Second Amendment issues, to fill the vacant chief counsel position. Leider's background includes a clerkship with Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas.

Army Secretary Driscoll, despite his current international travel commitments, will maintain his responsibilities in both roles as Army Secretary and acting ATF director.
