Red Flag Law

  • U.S. Senator Marco Rubio (R-FL), who introduced his "Red Flag" Bill (S. 7) on DAY ONE of the new Congress! U.S. Senator Lindsey Graham (R-SC) has backed the schemes as well;
  • Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY), who pitched "Red Flag" gun confiscation legislation as part of a larger gun control agenda in the wake of last year's Parkland, Florida murders;
  • U.S. Senator Chris Murphy (D-CT), who according to news reports, was tasked by Democrat gun grabbers to pitch gun bills to Trump, including a "Red Flag" measure.

February 2018:

President Trump on Wednesday voiced support for confiscating guns from certain individuals deemed to be dangerous, even if it violates due process rights.

“I like taking the guns early, like in this crazy man’s case that just took place in Florida ... to go to court would have taken a long time,” Trump said at a meeting with lawmakers on school safety and gun violence.

“Take the guns first, go through due process second,” Trump said.

Yeah, I can see his point as do other experts on this subject--

John Banzhaf, who teaches at George Washington University Law School, says the Supreme Court would probably allow a law that lets police respond to a student’s threatening social-media posts by seizing his weapons until a hearing could take place.

“A narrowly tailored ‘take the guns first’ law would probably be found constitutional,” Banzhaf said.

We're listening to lib college professors now? And since when do we on the right pat gun grabbers on the back for their "good ideas?" Trump was wrong back then on this and he's still wrong today. If we pass red flag laws it will only be a small step to confiscating guns from bloggers who post an "offensive" post or say something offensive at a public meeting. I'm sick of ignorant gun owners advocating for positions that tread on our 2A.

I'm sorry; why would a student have weapons? What are the age restrictions? This isn't a farming or hunting community?

Once you make threatening social-media posts, your weapons days should be over.

@7:05...Trump, although right most of the time, isn't always right...that's why he has advisors and the American people.
Also, not ALL college professors are liberal whack jobs. He gave a legal opinion...it didn't come from the fake news media.
If someone has shown signs of being a threat to himself or others, measures need to be taken before that person commits murder. This law allows friends and family to attempt to do something for safety.

From the quotes on the blog, it appears to be partisan.

I do agree with this law. And I do worry about a slippery slope. What will constitute being "crazy" in the future? Being a registered Republican ? 7:58- why Shouldn't a student have weapons? Why should a "hunting or farming community " be the criteria for owning a gun? If,God forbid, some deranged killer wants to do violence with a gun, I pray that there is a sane,NORMAL person with a gun around to stop them. Or yeah, I guess you could take the Democrat advice and pee on the shooter.Or throw a can of corn.

Well at what age should the student be able to have a gun in your opinion 10:39?

It's certainly understandable that you would worry about who would be considered crazy!

Lynn Anderson said...

8:39--It is 21 in Florida and in most states age 18 before you can own a gun. Most students would not qualify other than college kids and they can't bring guns on campus.

Thank you for introducing common sense into the discussion Lynn.
