Message from Cpt. Todd Baer
Captains Corner
From Captain Todd Baer, District Commander – District 14 - City of Lake Worth
Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office
Greetings,
Summer is here again. DO NOT leave valuables in your vehicles. There are two schools of thought on vehicle security-- “open and empty” or “locked and empty.” I prefer the latter, however the key is not to leave any valuables inside.
Auto burglaries are up significantly this year in Lake Worth Beach. In the overwhelming majority of cases the vehicle was left unlocked. We have had numerous valuable items taken to include, jewelry, purses, wallets and even guns. Case in point, this past week we had nine auto burglaries and all nine vehicles had been left unsecured. Two had firearms inside which are now in the hands of criminals.
Let’s all work together to make this a safe and enjoyable summer.
Yours in Service,
Captain Baer

There are two schools of thought on this issue: Some people are of the opinion that you should be able to leave your car unlocked, and that juveniles, or whoever should obey the laws, and not steal your car.
If you knew what it was costing you and society to process and sometimes prosecute these petty crimes, you might think better of it and lock your car.
Also, if you have a gun, it's not providing you with any protection if it is in the console of your empty car, but it might at some point wind up killing someone.
Elementary my Dear Watson!
Too much crime in Lake Worth, thefts, it was on the news last night, the news said Lake Worth has the highest robberies in all of FL, higher than Miami and the manager was interviewed and has tons of excuses.
A friend told me that last night someone stoled some city trucks from parks and rec over in the bad part of the city near south A street, the trucks were locked and they got in and stole the trucks, caught on camera stealing.
Lake Worth is so bad for thefts and robberies.
We were a victim so many times when we lived in Lake Worth, it is the worst city for crime and theft in all of this county they say and now the entire state.
I invite Capt Baer and his men to spend some time west of I-95 doing some speed control. If you catch these jerks going 300 mph through our neighborhoods, you might find some other stuff in the course of your investigation.I'm so over hearing about how crime is down in the city. BULLSHIT! We have begged and begged for some speed control. NOTHING !!!!! PBSO doesn't even do speed checks on 6th ave south anymore. People are going to get killed around here-but gee no worries! PBSO is just friggin GREAT RIGHT???????? Who in the fuc CARES if people are getting into unlocked cars? We CARE that they are getting into our LOCKED homes and killing us on the roads in between the drug dealing they are doing on every part of Lake Osborne drive RIGHT IN THE DAYTIME!!!!!
I share your concern about speeding 9:14, but I think you have to look beyond PBSO to your legislators to get any action on that issue. This is bigger than just the police. The police can't go chasing after them; that's when the really fatal accidents happen. It's a huge problem, that nobody wants to deal with. Even the insurance companies don't address it. In fact, all I hear about is people wanting the speed limits raised.
Thanks for your words,10:06 ,but sorry. If you think looking to your "legislators" is going to do JACK, you are living in Lala land. These are the same people who go around preaching that "crime is down! Whoopie"!!! If SOMEBODY doesn't hold the shuffle- ball- shuffle feet of PBSO to the fire and demand REAL POLICE WORK for the VERY REAL TAX DOLLARS that they are being paid, the stinky gross and deadly status quo will continue here in Lake Worth. Maybe it's going to take citizens standing by the side of the road with "PBSO is a lazy ,do nothing sham " signs to really make a difference.
I think you are mistaken to blame PBSO. There is certainly enough blame to go around, but PBSO is just the whipping boy. Florida likes that slogan, "Another Day in Paradise". If you go around arresting people, it doesn't look good for their image. They really don't care how many people die on the roads. To the powers that be, it's just a statistic! The police are just "Butterflies, caught in a web."
Man, people are miserable in Lake Worth. When are you going to find yourself a better fit instead of being angry old sourpusses until you check out.
sorry 3.19 but if I was moving here and heard they were arresting those doing wrong that's good news.whats your problem lead foot ,no license,no insurance, crrrying pot.
5:20, the good news for you is that you have achieved your goal. You wanted to be uneducated, but in your wildest dreams, you never thought you would be that stupid. Good luck with your ESL course.
9.15 I will pray for you
Mazel Tov!
