Commissioner McVoy is fed up with all the abandoned properties in Lake Worth, as are we all. He has been talking to the city manager with ideas of more action and less talk and more direct ordinances.
Read about it... and see the video.

Go, Chris. One of the few really selfless people on the commission. Thanks for all you do.
There is so much blight and abandoned buildings all over our city, especially west of Dixie. The real problem is renters. We have about 70% rental in our city, renters do not care for the most part bottomline. You see that in the way they keep their rental properties and houses that are rented. We now have more people buying all these houses, investors, who buy them to rent them, more and more investors, and less and less homeownership of people buying and living in the house, this is the BIG problem in LW. Investors only care about getting their rent money, and renters do not care about making where they live look nice. We need a huge push for only single family homes and homeownership in this city. For the most part if you are a homeowner living in your house, you have all rentals living in front and back and both sides of you. Renters have taken over the city and have brought our city down, investors do not want their properties to go up in value so they they have to pay more taxes, so investors make sure their properties are dumpy so that their taxes stay low, they want low taxes, but charge high rents, a lot of the people who rent here too, do not pay that rent, it comes from government assistance anyway then going directly to the investor/slumlord. It is all a vicious cycle and until we have more single family homeownership, we will continue to have the blight, crime, and abandoned buildings in our city, it just keeps getting worse. Who will show real leadership in our city to address the problem?
Chris McVoy doesn't always do that much either, he is not good about calling or emailing you back either, none of the commission, mayor, or CM really do anything. They have the entire city for sale by the realtors here selling all to investors who then rent out all homes and apartments.
Houses are so cheap in this city so all the investors buy them up with cash and rent them out without ever really taking care of them. No one cares anymore. This city looks like hell!
Comm. McVoy forgot to mention too that a lot of the boarded up and uncared for buildings are owned by millionaires like 1306 Lucerne Ave. who just refuses to keep up their boarded up roof caving in building bringing our western downtown area down for the entire city and citizens. Sad that rich people who have the money do not keep up their properties, who is worse the rich man who owns 1306 Lucerne leaving it like a dump or all the investors who rent all their property out and don't invest in it or keep them up either? The rich in this city are ALL to blame for this dump of a city, then they wonder why all say it is a hell hole, they just do it so they do not have to pay a lot of taxes on their dumpy properties. This is what is keeping this city in a hell hole. Blame the rich slumlords Comm. McVoy! or are you one of them?
This city haven't looked better in the 30 years we've lived here. The CRA has done a good job of cleaning up blighted properties.
Where do you live, anonymous at 4:23?
In the case of our city, we have enacted 44 ordinances over the last four years to help rid the city of slum and blight and to give teeth to our code enforcement department. A large part of the slum and blight comes from the 1,500 homes in foreclosure and the 2,000 abandoned houses in Lake Worth.
426 PM here. I live on North O near 13th. I also have a few investment properties and friends in town and get around most of it regularly by auto, bicycle, and foot.
