Felony Battery in Lake Worth

Comment Up

Most of the crimes that occur within our city do not make it into the news.  This one is no exception.

On October 5, at about 8:15pm, a black guy pummeled a white guy while at the pier in Bryant park. His injuries were so severe that he was taken by Trauma Hawk to the Delray medical clinic. A Dr. Rodriguez treated him there for facial lacerations and fractures and life threatening Subarachnoid. No one knows the victims name. He is being referred to as John Doe or case number 06-13-128249--felony battery.

A black male, Harold Tucker, was sitting on the railing at the fishing pier at Bryant park in the company of three other men, two white all presumed to be homeless...some sort of argument ensued and Tucker pushed John Doe onto the rocks. He was then punched and kicked and stomped three times in the face while John Doe was unconscious. He remains in critical condition and still was unconscious as of this report, two days later.

This is just one more crime in our little city where crime is escalating beyond control... crime that never reaches the news.  Our parks need to close at Sundown. The sheriff must patrol these hot-bed areas throughout the city and be pro-active.

We have a serious problem at Bryant Park with the homeless who are allowed to hang-out there but crime permeates throughout our 6 square miles, getting worse by the day.  You may want to fix the pot holes and spend $50 million on infrastructure and develop the Park of Commerce Vice Mayor, but until you address the slum, the blight and the horrible crime in our city, no one will want to live here and help pay for your tax and spend programs because no one will be left but slumlords renting to poor people. As elected officials, it is your duty to ensure that people are safe and have a quality of life that they deserve.

Lynn, I say close the park at sunset until the homeless go elsewhere. It is to dangerous in the pm anyway. Until it is safe people like me will not use it, much less enjoy it.Crime and blight need to be addressed first. People have lost confidence in our mayor, commission and cms ability to to lead this broken city. Seems like anything meaningful is done by volunteer groups. Call or e-mail city hall and you will see first hand the lack of any response. Remember this when elections come around.

Lynn, it is about time yes and no voters who love our city and have no hidden agenda come together and compromise. Only then we can elect officials that truly represent us.50 million for infrastructure before crime and blight is addressed is backward.

This Commission has brought more low-income ,future rental ghettos into this city than ever before in Lake Worth's history. And don't quote me how much the rents are going to be, Commissioner Maxwell , because we the people SUBSIDIZE those rents. They ask 900 a month? We subsidize 700 dollars of it.This Commission ran on INCREASING single family home ownership in Lake Worth. Remember that ?
Get rid of the homeless bums that decay in our city parks! Ever see the homeless hanging out in Palm Beach? We here in Lake Worth deserve the same . If Palm Beach does it, so can we.
The PBSO need to get off of their asses, out of their patrol cars and INTO OUR FUC$ING NEIGHJBORHOODS !!! Do your G. Damned job! Earn those fat pensions that I PAY FOR!
I'm REALLY disgusted by what's happening in this city. This Commission needs to own up to their part in what's wrong, not try to blame previous Commissioners. Pointing fingers at the past does NOT help all of us trapped in this CRIME INFESTED PRESENT !!!

Last night the commission blamed past commissions for all the problems of the city. what a damn joke. they have had 2.5 years to get something done. It is worse than ever. Who do you hold accountable? Maxwell who ran on getting rid of slum and all the rest on the commission. The buck stops with them right now.

this commission is good at hiring consultants and approving expensive studies that we cannot afford to put into practice. it is time to elect a new dais. people who go into the neighborhoods and listen. any suggestions lynn?

100% true Katie

do we still have the citizen crime Patro?
when was that stopped

The citizen crime patrol, or the only one I see anyway, is little old ladies riding around in sheriff's office cars. Don't ask them anything, or flag them down and call anything to their attention. You will have to repeat yourself like 10 times and then you'll have them so unruffled that they might forget to keep their feet on the brake and plow into a building. I'm sorry. They're just not any help. And given that their not the ones getting big salaries and pensions and full health, patrols aren't really their responsibility. We need deputies visible, out there, every day, driving around, and walking around. Through Bryant Park. Every day. Going out on the fishing piers, into the pavilion, talking to people. The addicts and ex-cons have taken over our public places, and are taking over our city. We need to make changes NOW. And next time someone calls you from Bryant Park, don't take 20 minutes to get there. It's only a 5 minute drive from the sheriff's office. Hurry!

It is sad to read and hear about this now. I agree that the CM and elected just are not doing enough. The PBSO do try when you contact them, they just need to be present more in the heavy crime areas. At least the PBSO will be response, city hall and the CM are not, I agree, they need to fire Michael B, he just is not cutting it for our city, and when he just ignores our calls and emails, that is completely unacceptable. The crime, blight, lack of codes, and safety is a huge problem and although we get support from the PBSO, overall, the city leadership just is not doing enough. Very sad. We need a stronger CM in lake Worth. Look how the CM left Erica Willis on South E Street hanging and is not addressing those problems.

My thoughts, PBSO is not present in this city unless you call them. They are not patrolling the city (except for citizen patrol). Even when one calls the non emergency number they are slow on response and often times unresponsive.

I agree parks need much more patrolling. The homeless are a problem and the churches are feeding them so they stay in close proximity to these churches. I feel bad for these folks (except for the ones committing crimes) but we can't have them hanging out in our parks and neighborhoods engaging in crimes (rape at snook island) and nuisance behavior.

CM has said repeatedly that he needs to change perception. He is not focused on changing reality. He is our $135,000 CEO and his stated goal is to change our "perception". That, folks, is smoke and mirrors in its truest sense. Instead of wagging your fingers from the podium during public comment, start asking direct questions of the CM...in public, on the record, in front of his 5 bosses.

If you want to get right down to the nitty gritty, blame it on the federal government. The problem escalated when the Mentoring Center was voted in. Jeff Clemens was the one who brought the vote over the top. It was supposed to get all the loiterers OFF the city streets. It didn't. The Mentoring Center was FINALLY closed down thanks to Susan Stanton and the commission at the time, Golden, Mulvehill. It escalated when the Feds looked the other way with the illegals and gave PBSO and ICE no power. It escalated when the churches encouraged the illegals to come to our city and their feeding of the homeless. It has been a slum and blight deplorable mess ever since. Blame it on the liberals and all their socialist friends who are encouraging the downgrade of our country and consequently our city. Blame it on the financial institutions that crashed our economy.

And when you get through putting the blame where it should be, let's decide, and be serious about it, to clean up this city.

Will we see you Saturday morning at the Neighborhood Cleanup on South C Street?

It is a lot of fun.

If you're talking to me, anonymous above, I will be volunteering elsewhere in our city.

P.s. Knock on all the doors that are affected by this clean-up and see if they will get out and help you. Report back.

Anonymous said...

I've been to enough of them to know that knocking on doors of those who live there to help out is fruitless. Those who want to help are already out there helping. We have knocked on a few doors to call out the occupants on how they left their yard before they passed out. They did come out and clean up their yard right then and there.

The few that live in that area and really do care REALLY appreciate the rest of us who come out to help make their neighborhood a little nicer. If we didn't do it, it wouldn't get done. It's a cultural thing and we dig cultural diversity here, don't we?

Absolutely, AMEN, we need to start finding out why Mr. Bornstein is not responding to citizens when they call or write to him, the mayor and comm. need to hold him accountable for that, he is the CEO, and he should respond or have one of his dept. respond to address citizen concerns, period. He ignores citizens, is no responsive, and the mayor and comm. allow this. Do they really think any of us will cote for them again, when they are not making their CEO responsive to the citizens that pay his salary? Michael won't last much longer with this attitude and nonresponsiveness approach to dealing with LW citizens. Bornstein is an example letting the power go to his head, he no longer thinks he has to answer to any of us.

The homeless people I see at the church feedings and the parks are not illegals or immigrants but older white guys down. I don't think the mentoring center or illegal immigrants has anything to do with the homeless problem we have. I think the problem stems from JFK hospital who drops them off down town and the churches that feed them and the COMPLETE LACK OF POLICING BY PBSO.

Dear Lynn,

Please challenge any of your followers who have posted how our CM doesn't answer their emails to post the emails they have sent the CM that he hasn't answered. That is what I would do but I can't because EVERY email I have sent Mr. Bornstein gets answered in a timely manner. I am calling all of you out who are so quick to post inaccuracies and untruths to prove me wrong. I bet not one of you that cowardly post under anonymous to post verifiable proof that the CM has not answered emails sent to him that contain valid concerns!

Come on you can do it. If you have sent the CM an email he has not responded to I dare any of you to actually POST PROOF other than your cowardly anonymous posts. If it is true you shouldn't having a problem with proving it. Simply copy and paste the entire email you sent including the date and time you sent it. A public record request will easily verify whether it was answered or not! tic...toc...tic...toc...

I get the funny feeling we won't see any!

Truthfully,
Mark A. Parrilla

Mark-
If you are calling my readers or myself a liar, then I take offense with that--BIG TIME. Mr. Bornstein and Mr. Torcivia have NEVER answered one of my e-mails. If they don't answer mine, then they don't answer others in this city.
One of the e-mails was posted about a week ago--it was a front page blog--it has never been answered by Mr. Bornstein according to the writer.
If you want verifiable proof, then do a public information request as you suggested. Geez.
