The Marquesa - a low rise hotel in a low rise city

Comment Up

In U.S. News & World Report‘s just-released list of the best hotels in the country--Amangani in Jackson, Wyo., is ranked first, and there are no Florida properties in the top 10.

U.S. News does, however, rank hotels on a state-by-state basis, and on that list, a single Palm Beach property, The Breakers, stands in fourth place.

The no. 1 Florida property is The Marquesa, a boutique hotel in Key West that is two stories. This is more proof that you don't need to build high to have quality or the best.

Yes if you have about half the houses in your city as rentals or vacation rentals and a whole slew of motels and hotels, this will work, otherwise a small hotel will not make much of an impact. However it will be a start.

We already have the Gulfstream. The bank needs to find a buyer who will make it a hotel again.

Anonymous at 9:37am: This hotel has 27 rooms. It's big enough but not too big. Were you looking forward to a Holiday Inn Express instead?

The Marquesa is only proof that in an island tourist town full of hotels and home rentals, a small, successful establishment can be celebrated for exceptionalism. Key West attracts 4,000,000+ visitors per year. To draw a parallel regarding building size, density and development here is beyond fatuous. Lake Worth isn't ANYTHING like Key West.

No Lake Worth isn't Key West. They celebrate history we don't. We have a HRPB that doesn't understand the value of preserving historic properties.
