Volunteer Boards get more than "thanks"

Tonight all the Volunteer Board members to the City of Lake Worth are being honored at a dinner at the Lake Worth Golf Course...all of them plus spouses. I counted 16 Boards but let's just say that there are 14 functioning Boards with 7 members each. That comes to 98 people. Add in spouses at another 50. Then add in the City Manager and top executives. Then add in the Commissioners. What is the total? About 158 people times $15 = $2,370 for dinner. Perhaps that was estimated too high. Maybe they will only be served a salad.

We all appreciate what volunteers do for the City and they do get our thanks...that is not my complaint. They volunteer, not expecting anything in return; they are giving back to a City because they care. The point is, if the City is so darn broke, why are we spending money on dinners at all? The FAB should have been wiser. This money should have been applied to something more practical, like a raise for a few people who deserve it.

It is time for the FREE lunch to stop. If we are not struggling for cash, then no problem.
