ICE cracking down

Comment up

With Obama’s blessing, ICE is cracking down on employers throughout the country, checking on I-9 forms which are used to establish identity and to confirm that they are allowed to work in the United States. 625 businesses were served notices that they will be checking on employee eligibility documents.

Recently the City of Lake Worth hired workers from The Mentoring Center to move furniture and for other odd jobs. Hopefully, the City checked on whether these workers were legal residents of our City or they would be complicit to an illegal act and thereby a conspirator to a crime.

Just supporting the concept of an illegal hiring hall has our City in jeopardy with the Obama administration and Federal Law. Janet Napolitano has said that investigations will focus on businesses that knowingly hire immigrants who cannot legally work here.

With unemployment now at 9.5% and 467,000 more jobs just lost last month reported to be the highest level in 26 years, this is a serious situation that Lake Worth is not taking seriously.

I drive to Publix and when I go by the shuffleboard court, I never see even cars in the parking lot. Are they still in business? Can we get that building back
