Herman on "Building Trust"
Tuesday night, while speaking to working for all residents,
Herman Robinson said
"Building trust is one of the keys to doing that."
Well, it wasn't a great start in the "building trust" department--
Ordinance 2017-06 was on the Agenda under Public Hearings Second Reading to designate 1019 and 1021 a mixed use Urban Planned 3 story Development of a proposed seven (7) unit townhouse complex located on a 20,250 square foot (.46 acre) site owned by Longboat Development II, LLLP.
Charles Gusmano, principal of Longboat Development, is the very same Charles Gusmano, Founder and COO of Southern Waste Systems (Sun Recycling). Mr. Gusmano and Longboat Development have been around Lake Worth for years and give contributions to certain politicians.
Mr. Robinson should have disclosed his campaign contributions from the various companies involved with Mr. Gusmano such as Jetport LLC and Waste Management or perhaps recused himself from the vote. I'm sure being new that this was just an oversight. Omari Hardy had recused himself on a vote involving one of his employers.

He has proposed SB 406 that would outlaw smoking medical marijuana and would limit medical marijuana for Florida residents only.
"The proposal would also place caps on the number of marijuana dispensaries, expanding the number of businesses by five when the state has 250,000 patients, 350,000 patients, 400,000 patients and then every 100,000 thereafter. Bradley's bill would max out at 20 companies providing medical pot to patients once the registry hits 500,000." [Sunshine News]
Even in spite of Commissioner Amoroso who believes that we all should have the right to walk around smoking dope, the Lake Worth Commission voted the right way on Tuesday night when they voted 5/0 to establish a moratorium on applications, confirmation letters, business licenses, development orders and permits involving uses relating to medical marijuana.
At the moment, there are two companies (more than enough) already approved to dispense medical marijuana in our city. Although it was said that they are "grandfathered in," I don't know how this proposed law would affect them if SB 406 should pass.

Comey Caught
[Vox Tribune.com] Freshman Congresswoman Rep. Elise Stefanik caught Comey breaking the rules. Stefanik, a Harvard graduate, and at 32 years of age, the youngest member ever elected to Congress. No one was really paying close attention while she took her turn questioning FBI Director James Comey. It was only after reviewing her line of questioning that the smoking gun was discovered.

"A Lake Worth woman has sued the mother of Danielle Bregoli, known as the “Cash Me Outside” girl from Boynton Beach, and accuses the 13-year-old of assaulting her in Lake Worth in February." She got pummeled by this out of control? 13 year old and one of her friends, breaking a thumb, punched in the face, etc.

The Look of Love
Our former commissioners did not impede your direction or desires for this city. Are you saying you believe you now have a rubber stamp on it all? Heights? You will no longer have to endure a commissioner with a different view? Cementing in our Olympic pool? Spending millions on an aquatic park? Hudson Holdings still in the wings to grab it all? During the campaign, Herman Robinson mentioned interlocal partnerships on several occasions. Did he mean public/private partnerships? Are we to have another Peter Willard in the wings? Will Bornstein get all his wishes now and get rid of the "white elephant"? Will you get yours, Vice Mayor?
On a positive note, perhaps we will no longer have to endure the rolling of the eyes and all the bullying.

It is not often that a scientist is granted the opportunity to participate directly in the American experiment of democracy (and not every city that gets the benefit of a scientist!)
I am honored to have been able to represent all the residents of this quirky city in South Florida that continues to attract folks from far and wide.
I am honored to have been able to serve as “voice of reason,” as a “voice of the people,” unburdened by allegiances to vested interests.
I am proud of our many accomplishments:
- The Burton modeling and analysis applied to our budgeting
- Our signing onto the Four County Climate Change Compact
- Our commitments to local sourcing and apprentices on publicly funded projects
- Our use of internationally recognized designers at our beach and at our living shoreline
- A beautiful building at the beach
- A state of the art RO plant
- Beautiful greenways
- 2 Megawatts of solar panels on our landfill
- Our installation of real time electric and water meters to help residents save money
- And many more
But our work is not done. Here are some specifics that I hope this new Commission will address:
- Code enforcement – spell out our priorities for all to see
- A program to reward good landlords, shame bad ones
- A gun violence prevention program. Consider the ShotSpotter technology
- Balancing the care for our different parks – I still cringe at the lack of bathrooms, the lighting, the tables and benches at Howard Park
- Our continued reputation for expensive electricity – use the new meters and a household-by-household program to address
- Customer service!
- Public Safety – address long standing problem areas such as the Holiday House Hotel on Dixie Hwy, others on Federal Hwy
And here are some areas where I am confident that together you can develop visions that will lift up and inspire our city:
- Quality of life in our neighborhoods, especially speeding, trucks and cut through traffic – develop a city wide set of goals, approaches and a plan. Work hard to involve residents – make it a community effort
- Environmental, especially energy. Help Lake Worth become nationally known for true leadership in this area – you can do it!
- Sober homes. This community has compassion but it also needs to feel safe. Learn to distinguish between good sober homes who provide a needed service and the duds who just profit and hurt us.
I would like to close by handing over the torch:
- I am entrusting all five of you, new and old, with the protection of our city’s greatest asset – it’s heart and soul.
- I recognize that this is not an easy task, and that it generates more questions than answers:
o What gives a city Heart and Soul, why does our city have more of it than Lantana or WPB or most other cities in South FL?
o What strengthens heart and soul, and what weakens it?
o Can it be measured in dollars or square feet developed? Probably not, and yet we need both dollars and square ft.
o Are there slippery slopes that could threaten our heart and soul, and that will be hard to reverse before it’s too late?
o How does diversity, all kinds of diversity, fit into the picture? How do we smooth the edges?
o These and more are all important questions to get right.
- So I challenge each and every one of you to do your best, not for yourselves, but for ALL in this city
- I challenge you all to do your utmost to hear from all viewpoints in the city, to cultivate, to welcome real public input – it will help you to find answers
- I challenge you to find ways strengthen our city as a whole – the finances, the sense of safety, the quality of life, the compassion and the tolerance.
- I challenge you to protect and strengthen the Heart and Soul that makes our city a beacon within South Florida
- Be that light and Godspeed!

Let's face it--Amoroso is a declared atheist. He doesn't believe in anything the Common Ground Church does to help addicts to turn around their lives and be productive citizens. He just doesn't believe in church or the good that they do.
Drugs are in our downtown so why not a place where these people can go who are kicking their habit and want nothing more than to be productive once again, a place that will be drug free serving nothing but coffee. Does it matter that it will be across from a nightclub? Will a nightclub that sells booze where people love to go and get a buzz be a bad influence on these people? It's possible that a small minority might slip but the Common Ground Church will be there to help them all.
This community center will not negatively impact our community any more than any other business in our downtown.
