First Amendment Rights

Comment Up

This is how bad it's getting in the land of the free and the brave as the Obama administration continues to militarize our police. First amendment rights are eroding.

Read about it.

Lake Worth Millage Rate

Today we learned that the tax rates are probably going up for 13 area towns. The good news is ad valorem taxes won’t be going up in Lake Worth. We have not yet learned about special assessments, if any.

On July 16th (the first public hearing) Lake Worth set its millage the same as last year—5.4945. With the inclusion of the County Fire MSTU millage of 3.4581, our tax rate will be 8.9526 leaving the City 1.0474 to work with. However, our city will be making more money in this new tax year because property values have increased. This year for the first time in 6 years there is an increase in the taxable value of real and personal property (4.81%). This rate will result in an increase in the actual tax revenue collected. The 4.81 is the total increase in taxable value (includes CRA district), and the increase attributable to the City outside the CRA is 3.96. I don't recall if any projection figures were offered at this meeting.

There are several towns that have increased their rates, one of which is Gulfstream where Bill Thrasher is city manager. Mr. Thrasher is a Lake Worth resident who used to be on our Financial Advisory Board. Their taxes are going up by 19.4% and the money that is generated will be used for road improvements and beautification as well as to replenish Reserves.

With all the money that we paid out for Greater Bay’s shake-down as well as possible millions in payouts to FEMA for the questionable charges submitted to them, constant and never ending raises to police and fire pensions as well as our unfunded liability, and this Commission's vote to wean us off dependency of millions from the Utility that has afforded us to operate our city, we have the flexibility to roll our rate forward should we realize that we won't generate enough revenue from higher property values.

Millage will be finalized at our September 12th city commission meeting.

Lake Worth City Commissioners are set to ignore the will of city voters

Comment Up

Four commissioners want their way and the hell with the voters in Lake Worth.  They will create a hotel district allowing 65 feet and will do that from the dais this Tuesday night.

Further, the commission majority insists the hotel district can only succeed if the city allows building heights in the eastside area to exceed the height limits enshrined in the city charter. (No one has ever provided a study to back up that claim either.)

Unfortunately for the commission majority, Lake Worth held a referendum last spring in which city voters, by 56% to 44%, said no to high-rise. (No one has shown that the election was anything other than free, fair and democratic.)

What is Seven/50?

Comment Up

We heard Commissioner John Szerdi mention it.  And there are many people alarmed about it.  What is it?

From the Seven/50 web site: Seven50 (“seven counties, 50 years”) is a blueprint for growing a more prosperous, more desirable Southeast Florida during the next 50 years and beyond. The plan is being developed to help ensure a vibrant and resilient economy, and stewardship of the fragile ecosystem in what is quickly becoming one of the world’s most important mega-regions.

Spearheaded by the South Florida and Treasure Coast Regional Planning Councils (the Treasure Coast gets its  nose into everything in Lake Worth) and the Southeast Florida Regional Partnership (SFRP), a unique collaboration of more than 200 public, private, and civic stakeholders, Seven50 is mapping the strategy for the best-possible quality of life for the more than six million residents of Monroe, Miami-Dade, Broward, Palm Beach, Martin, St. Lucie and Indian River counties.

The plan is being devised through a series of public summits, workshops, online outreach and high-impact studies led by the region’s top thinkers. Seven50 has been made possible by a grant from the US Department of Housing & Urban Development’s Sustainable Communities InitiativeClick here for a comprehensive overview of Seven/50 from their web site.

We have heard Lake Worth resident, Suzanne Squire, talk about Seven/50 as well as Agenda 21.  Read her letter to the editor of the LW Herald this week's edition. What is Agenda 21?

In a nutshell, the plan calls for governments to take control of all land use and not leave any of the decision making in the hands of private property owners.  It is assumed that people are not good stewards of their land and the government will do a better job if they are in control.  Individual rights in general are to give way to the needs of communities as determined by the governing body.  - See more at: http://www.democratsagainstunagenda21.com/#sthash.36L50R7Z.dpuf

It is the taking over of all land use on private property by the government and ties in with Seven/50.  See what the mayor of Vero Beach has to say about it.

Know thy enemy

Rand Paul got beaten down by an 86 to 13 vote to cut off aid to Egypt. The Senate believes that the Muslim Brotherhood needs our assistance and that we would be endangering Israel if we don't give them tons of money, etc.  Paul calls this a Military Coup in Egypt and says we had a legal obligation to cut off funding.

The Brotherhood's stated goal is to instill the Qur'an and Sunnah as the "sole reference point for ...ordering the life of the Muslim family, individual, community ... and state." The movement is known for engaging in political violence, claiming responsibility for the installation of Hamas. Muslim Brotherhood members are suspected to have assassinated political opponents like Egyptian Prime Minister Mahmoud an-Nukrashi Pasha. Source:  Wikipedia.

We keep dishing out money like its candy and they all still hate our guts. As Rand Paul says, “If I thought the foreign aid would do something good, I might be for it. It doesn’t buy goodwill of the people. It buys ill will. It does completely the opposite of everything they say it does. It does completely the opposite.”

The Muslim Brotherhood has one simple and powerful goal:  a war against the Jews and Western freedoms. We really should know and understand who we are dealing with in Egypt and the world. The Muslim Brotherhood hates our guts and for everything this country stands and wants us dead. Rand Paul is right, not necessarily because it was a military coup and funding should have ceased (though denied by Obama), but  because the Muslim Brotherhood's leader, Muhammed Badi, has called for the destruction of Israel and the demise of the United States.
This is no time to be politically correct.

10) Only in America ... could politicians talk about the greed of the rich at a $35,000.00 a plate campaign fund-raising event.

9) Only in America ... could people claim that the government still discriminates against black Americans when they have a black President, a black Attorney General and roughly 20% of the federal workforce is black while only 14% of the population is black.  40+% of all federal entitlements goes to black Americans – 3X the rate that go to whites, 5X the rate that go to Hispanics!

8) Only in America ... could they have had the two people most responsible for our tax code, Timothy Geithner (the head of the Treasury Department) and Charles Rangel (who once ran the Ways and Means Committee), BOTH turn out to be tax cheats who are in favor of higher taxes.

7) Only in America ... can they have terrorists kill people in the name of Allah and have the media primarily react by fretting that Muslims might be harmed by the backlash.

6) Only in America ... would they make people who want to legally become American citizens wait for years in their home countries and pay tens of thousands of dollars for the privilege, while they discuss letting anyone who sneaks into the country illegally just 'magically' become American citizens.

5) Only in America ... could the people who believe in balancing the budget and sticking by the country's Constitution be thought of as "extremists."

4) Only in America ... could you need to present a driver's license to cash a check or buy alcohol, but not to vote.

3) Only in America ... could people demand the government investigate whether oil companies are gouging the public because the price of gas went up when the return on equity invested in a major U.S. oil company (Marathon Oil) is less than half of a company making tennis shoes (Nike).

2) Only in America ... could the government collect more tax dollars from the people than any nation in recorded history, still spend a trillion dollars more than it has per year - for total spending of $7-Million PER MINUTE, and complain that it doesn't have nearly enough money.

1) Only in America ... could the rich people - who pay 86% of all income taxes - be accused of not paying their "fair share" by people who don't pay any income taxes at all.

If you notice the budget discussions, there is none when it comes to Public Safety and all the millions we pay. Lot's of crime going on in the 600 block of Lake Avenue.  Perhaps since this is Commissioner Amoroso's block where his store is located, and the city manager lives in The Lucerne right next door, things will get better?

A perfect day for tanning
Nice tropical breeze

Other than at each end of the pool, it was relatively clean.
