Everything else is theater. Gerrymandering is evil until they do it. Free speech is sacred until conservatives speak. Courts are legitimate until they rule the wrong way.
“Democracy” is holy until voters produce the wrong result. Then come the structural fixes: pack the Court, rewrite districts, add states, loosen election rules, change the process, manage the output.
This is not hypocrisy by accident. It is a strategy. Heads, they win. Tails, you are a threat to democracy. Once you see the method, the contradictions stop being confusing. [Luthmann]
