Eleventh Circuit Appeals Court Just Humiliated the Obama Judge Who Tried Shuttering Alligator Alcatraz
Judge Kathleen Williams ordered Alligator Alcatraz shut down, the illegals transferred out, and the generators ripped from the ground. That order is now in the trash.
What Judge Kathleen Williams Actually Ordered--
Last August, Williams issued a sweeping injunction against Florida's immigration detention facility in the Everglades. She sided with environmental groups and a Native American tribe that claimed the facility required a federal environmental review under the National Environmental Policy Act.
Her order didn't just pause operations. She told the state to ban new transfers, halt all construction, and strip out the generators, fencing, and waste systems within 60 days – effectively ordering the entire facility dismantled.
DeSantis called her an activist judge who had no intention of ruling fairly.
"This is a judge that was not going to give us a fair shake," DeSantis said. "This was preordained, very much an activist judge that is trying to do policy from the bench."
The majority found that Florida, not the federal government, built and controls the facility – which means federal environmental review law simply doesn't apply.
How the 11th Circuit Ruling Dismantled the case
Environmental activists, including Chris McVoy, caused the State of Florida a hell of a lot of money.
