Democrats sue to block Trump executive order restricting mail-in ballot distribution

Congressional Democrats and the Democratic National Committee filed a lawsuit Wednesday to block President Trump's recent executive order cracking down on mail-in voting, setting up yet another legal battle over election integrity measures that the left reflexively frames as "voter suppression."

Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, and other party organizations joined the suit, with prominent Democratic election lawyer Marc Elias leading the charge.

The complaint targets an executive order that would restrict how mail-in ballots are distributed, part of a broader effort by the administration to ensure that only verified U.S. citizens receive them.

Earlier this week, President Trump announced that he directed Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin, along with the Social Security Administration, to create a list of verified U.S. citizens who are eligible to vote. Under the order, the U.S. Postal Service will only be permitted to send ballots to those people.
