Pandhandlers

West Palm Beach may drop panhandling ordinance

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla./CBS12 —

"It appears the City of West Palm Beach is going to drop its ordinance that makes panhandling unlawful."

Well, West Palm Beach is run by a bunch of liberals.

( "Because of a recent 2015) U.S. Supreme Court case and other court rulings, the city of West Palm Beach may join a list of other cities in the state that have had to throw out their ordinances that outlaw panhandling. Some courts have determined panhandling ordinances are unconstitutional under the First Amendment to the U.S. Constitution."

In 2015, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled in favor of churches' free speech. The case had nothing to do with panhandling, but it set a new legal precedent that's now being used to take down panhandling laws in cities across the country.

As far as I can tell, no panhandling bans have made it to the Supreme Court. But in recent years, all lower courts ruling on this issue have found that laws imposing restrictions on sidewalk and roadside solicitation are unconstitutional.

So, what's next for Lake Worth in this respect? Are we to see panhandlers bothering us again as we dine in front of Dave's?

Read about it...
