Last night, one of our Lake Worth residents and a big supporter of commissioner Andy Amoroso declared that she wanted our city to become a destination. This would happen if we built a parking garage in our downtown.
It may not be the garage that attracts people but rather the two medical marijuana dispensaries that will open--one at 1125 North Dixie and the other at 1 S. Dixie directly adjacent to City Hall. We will be attracting pot users to Lake Worth. Now that's a proud distinction--to be known as the "Starbucks of medical marijuana" as one dispensary owner said.
Commissioner Amoroso says, "We can't say no..if no one else is allowing them to open, where else are they going to go?" It seems other cities passed moratoriums on dispensaries and according to the article, Lake Worth did not do that and now we have to accept the pot shops.
Read the article... 2 pot producers plan shops in Lake Worth.
On March 21, the commission on a 5/0 vote and 2nd Public Hearing established a moratorium and ordinance on accepting applications, confirmation letters, business licenses, development orders and permits involving uses relating to medical marijuana.

Medical marijuana will explode into a lot of people declaring aches and pains. You wait. maybe they will all visit Andy's store.
Where else would they go? So now we're magnanimous for bringing further mess to LW? How about they open in YOUR front yard, Andy? If its "medical" why not turn it over to the phara companies and have it in pill form? This will cause an explosion in lung cancer. Guaranteed to be scams, abuses and more accidents. This will bring more children to the ER more cost to taxpayers. Tourism? We're already loaded with the walking dead.
You cant blame Amoroso. The people of this state overwhelmingly voted to legalize marijuana for the medicinal use. Period. If you dont like it, move to a state where it is not yet legalized and pray you dont develop a condition that benefits from the use of it such as many of the conditions our soldiers bring home with them.
after smoking pot people wont have the funds to go to andys dump.as for medical I will take an aspirin and tell it to go to the pain and have a clear head
This is just the beginning for legalizing marijuana for general use which now is the entire west coast of the US, Nevada, Colorado, Mass and Maine. Seniors in the state got sucked into the marijuana agenda and the multi-million lobby. Some people are going to make multi-millions on this.
I blame our Commissioners and our city attorney for not protecting the people of Lake Worth ! Our reputation is already (and NOT deservedly) in the gutter. This is going to be the last straw! Who will want to move their families here? The neighborhoods have been trying so hard to make this town a better place to live. Well Amoroso and his fake drug king buddy Mr. D have thrown that all into the trash can !Oh I' sure that some huge contributions will find their way to this sad group of Commissioners!
How long was the moratorium?
For sure our criminal commission will benefit from this atrocious act against good citizens who will be forced into daily encounters with brain dead potheads and more criminal activity. Look at the mayor, one minute we're told she's about to lose her house, next minute NOT. ( I like her eating show, though.)
seen better eating shows
I'm not concerned about Lake Worth getting worse; it's already worst. What's troubling is that this is what people want. The sense of worthlessness which must accompany the craving for this drug is a symptom of a sick society. What we need is a good war. Maybe some time cowering in a bunker will give people perspective. It's sad to say, but war is the human condition, and without it, people seem to just lose focus.
I agree 3:41pm but when it happens our population will be so weak they can just be round up like cattle. Just observed a young, healthy and overweight woman bragging about recently obtaining foodstamps as if it were a Harvard degree. She was in a convenience store loading up on junk food and energy drinks, looked like she's never missed a meal, was able bodied,( her youth precludes all the diseases of weight) and could well work a job.
Very true 2:12pm I felt compelled to say one nice thing, so unnecessary.
no wonder our City has no interest from viable businesses. Riviera Beach now looks better than LW!!!!
10:48am Move if we don't like it, thats your response? Who's going to clean up the mess left by druggies and their entourage of scammers. No one believes it'll be used medically, there are hundreds of drugs on the market and we've seen what has happened in other states. PS: hi Andy
These dispensaries are going into the two nicest looking properties on Dixie.
