After the X'mas Parade

Comment Up

Monday morning, there will be a meeting on the horrendous amount of trash strewn about by visitors to our city during certain events. The Street Painting Festival and this parade generate more trash than any other event.

There has to be a solution to getting our streets cleaned-up more quickly. More trash cans might be a help. Ban smoking thus eliminating all the cigarette butts. Street sweepers need to be on the job in the wee hours of the morning immediately following the event, with trash blown onto the street to make it easier for our sweepers.

If there was a ton of trash to pick up, that means there were tons of people. It was the largest crowd I'd seen in the past several years.

Lake Worth was represented in a very good light for this Christmas Holiday. Kudos to those who made it possible and those who participated. The crowd was definitely enthusiastic!

Did you take any pics of the parade or just the aftermath?

The City, the chamber and other event planners put on some great events, but I've always thought that trash has been an issue where they all fail. There are not nearly enough trash cans put out for events, they are not emptied quickly enough and the result is trash ends up on the ground. Those card board trash cans should be put out every 20 feet or so when we have events.

I did see city workers or contract workers picking up trash on Sunday on my way to Publix.

Great parade. Great crowd. Lots of people from other places outside of Lake Worth. I always wonder whether it really is an economic benefit to the city to have all these people come into town for a "free" event, and then leave, throwing their trash on the ground. Do many of them buy things from our stores and dine in our restaurants? Or are they just using us for our great events? Sometimes it seems it would be more to our benefit to keep some of our events local. Promote them locally, but not in the Palm Beach Post and other county-wide media.
