Bryant Park , where there are no pot holes, just potheads

Comment Up

Lake Worth--the city of potholes and potheads.

Unfortunately, this hypodermic needle shows we have a bigger problem than just pot.  It's way past time to clean up our city parks where druggies are hanging out. Residents of this city deserve better and have been complaining about substance abusers sleeping on benches and hanging out at Bryant Park, our family, friendly major city park for years. It's now time to have sheriff patrols and rid our park of undesirables. Dawn to dusk should be the hours with no exceptions unless it is a city held sponsored or approved event.

P.B.S.O. is totally useless. They don't patrol our neighborhoods. When a crime is committed , they might or might not show up. If you get "lucky" and they do decide to show up , they take their sweet time. Are there ANY sheriffs anywhere in Lake Worth? The few I do see are speeding down Dixie, windows up, oblivious to what is happening on the streets that they are driving through.
I invite everyone to pick a day, sit in front of your home, and see how much time goes by before you see a police car go by. Bring a book,bugspray,food/drink, and money for the criminal that will probably shake you down. You'll be sitting for quite a spell.

anonymous 11:01am,

Do you call the Sheriff when you witness those cars parking and undesireables spending an unusual amount of time in the restroom? I do the RESPONSIBLE thing and call the Sheriff non-emergency number 688-3000 or 586-1611 give the license plate number if you can safely and I give as accurate a description as possible of the suspicous character(s). I use that park daily. We all have to do our part; safe, clean communities is not a spectator sport!!! If you continue to wait for the Sheriff like they are Superman to come to the rescue with their super hearing and super vision to detect every crime as it is about to happen and come flying with their red capes to save the day...you will be waiting until you draw your last breath and will never see that happen. When I walk my dogs and pass the restrooms I go in and check if I see something suspicious I call PBSO. You see something, you don't call the police then get on a local blogger's site and disparage PBSO like they are not doing their job WILL NOT resolve anything. Get involved, call when you see something suspicious no matter how trivial. It is the communities that call the police consistently that have the LOWEST crime rates, ask any law enforcement officer if you don't believe me. It is not rocket science people. Too many people with the superhero save me syndrome in this city maybe they read to many comic books when they were younger.

By the way I have been using Bryant Park daily for five years now and sometimes even in the late evening to walk my dogs after work and I have NEVER been harrassed, mugged, intimidated, or anything else that can be considered unsafe. I am a member of the public and I have been safe in our parks for quite sometime. Stop the drama and the screaming the sky is falling when the only thing that fell was an acorn or two.

Bryant Park PRE-PBSO was well known for perverts propositioning minors, violent crimes, etc. That HAS NOT HAPPENED in Bryant Park since PBSO took over. Yes we have a small nuisance at the park, yes, let's address it as a community and stop the blame game and pointing fingers, thats the easy lazy way out.

Realistically,

Does anyone in this City know how many Halfway Houses, and rehabs are in this City. Delay use to be the recovery Capital of South Florida. Now it is Lake Worth....

My grandson and I USE to walk to the park every morning before school, sit on the seawall, eat breakfast and watch the sun come up. It started making him uncomfortable with the lost ones hanging out at the ampatheater, milling around us, so we moved down to the south end, and again there they are every morning- dirty and filthy, sleeping all over the benches and tables. So our mornings by the intracoastal stopped and all the police say is they cannot make them leave apublic park at dawn, and they can't get their cars in before because the gates are locked. They obviously have rights, but where are our rights? I have lived in this town for years, paid taxes, my children went to school here, I shop here, I volunteer in my community, but I can't expect to have clean safe parks for my families use because I am infringing on their rights. Someone needs to be less PC and clean this town up!

I totally agree that PBSO doesn't patrol at all. They did a great job impressing us the first year, but now that we are dependent on them and stuck in our contract I never see them. They do seem to respond if you call, but it takes some time.

Saw the cameras in the cultural plaza and wondered if that was yet another way to decrease actual policing in the city.

anon 2:15pm is that the best you can do? Pathetic, still beating the dead horse? The punk bully got a year and a day that just goes to show what a real threat he was! Big bad scary guy everybody he threatened is still thriving alive and well and so are their homes. If there was a Lake Worth law on the books that allowed Captain Silva to arrest and lock up bullies spewing idle threats and making obnoxious comments he would be busy 24 hours 7 days a week just in Lake Worth and our jails would be full!

PS I have never seen so many cowards who can't stand behind their own words by signing their names to their comments. What are you all afraid of? People seeing that you spread lies and exaggerations? If you are speaking facts why wouldn't you own that. If you aren't ashamed of your opinion why hide when you state it? That is just pathetic.

Have a blessed day,

I call bullsh*t on the above post.
Just because in doesn't appear in the blotter, crime report, or our venerable Post Times, does NOT mean it's not happening, and with alarming frequency !
Re: pervs in the park :
less than 2 months ago a white male in his possible early 40's was seen exposing himself to several shocked, I say again, SHOCKED ! matrons in and around the park and the surviving environs.
I would never have heard this story had it not been relayed to me by a much-shaken neighbor to whom this directly occurred.

John,

You are entitled to your interpretation of my statement. I stated "perverts propositioning minors..." now homeless people being caught infragante while bathing is not make my post bullshit. It is quite irresponsible to pull four words from my whole statement to bolster your claim of my statement being BS I call your your response to my statment inaccurate and self serving. Do you have experience as a journalist, sure looks like it!

Be Blessed,

I watch the crime site posted below from PBSO, I think they are trying to control crime in the city but there is just too much happening. 27 crimes reported in a 2 month period at the beach, not to mention around the city and downtown, it's out of control.
