SNAP -

Comment Up

The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP, formerly known as the Food Stamp Program) is the nation’s most important anti-hunger program. 45.8 million people are receiving SNAP benefits with the average participant receiving $133.79 and average household receiving $289.61 per month.

The GOP was looking to slash the growing national food stamp program that has more than doubled since Obama.  They voted today and the budget was reduced but nothing was mentioned about SNAP. The vote was 216 to 208. The Democrats who have done everything within their power to expand big government and the welfare program, want to give more people that free lunch. The U.S. Department of Agriculture is the federal agency that oversees food stamps. Their main objectives are to --

Reduce improper payments and errors
Pursuing Food stamp fraud
Combating abuse and misuse of benefits

In the USDA projected budget for 2014, 72% was to go towards nutrition assistance; 6% for forestry an conservation; 15% on farm and commodity programs; and all others at 6%. $1.3 billion was to go towards renewable energy but the bill did not invest in renewable energy, an important source for economic growth in farming and rural communities across the country.

Hey obtuse blogger- many people that receive your "free lunch" are working poor with children that need assistance thanks to good christian companies like walmart paying substandard wages and not providing health care while 5 out of the top 10 richest people in the world are walmart family.
Except for ceo's wages have been stagnant for 5 years. Corporations are making record profits. Who suffers?
They don't tell you that on fux news do they?

Oh, the "obtuse" commenter has showed up again..is that the ONLY big word you know?

Fox news is fair and balanced news. You should try tuning in some time before you make snide remarks.

And re-read this blog. There is no reason for you to be so angry all of the time. facts are just that.

Oh, and corporations are owned by the shareholders--people like you (perhaps not--you can't stand the idea of corporations hiring us little folks and giving benefits and all that jazz), AND ME and other average Americans.

there is tremendous fraud in the food stamp program. That is a known fact.

You are a #$%^& to put a sign that says liquor and cigarettes and we take food stamps is implying that not only the poor souls who receive Food Stamps are committing fraud but so are the store owners.

Unfortunately, many of them are, anonymous. You are not that naive, are you? There are always bad apples who ruin the barrel for everyone else.

I deleted your personal attacks against this blogger. They are NOT allowed on this blog. Please keep your bad temper in check. Thanks very much.
