The Post article pretty much sums it up other than Stafford's forceful, accusatory and aggressive manner which came out in this debate. Some people like this style and they were all there last night. Obsessed with the electric utility, Stafford wants to reduce our revenues even further by having all consumers pay the exact same rate. Conservation or the idea that those who consume more should pay more is not in his radar. Selling the electric utility is his platform without one bit of knowledge of what it is worth or what we owe..."put it on the March election," he says. He does not want to wait for the new energy provider where rates are expected/could be decreased by 25%...he's not interested in making our asset better.

Nothing controversial this year. Mr. Paxman only asked predetermined questions from neighborhood association members. One humorous question to the candidates was, "Do you have a job and will you reveal your tax returns?"

Once again,Mcvoy had no spotlight on him.I was sitting in the middle of the stage area.Because of some coin toss, he had to have final statement before his opponent,clearly another disadvantage.Standing ovations were for both candidates not just stafford who spoke last.
I was in the back and heard Ms. Sharp running her mouth.

It was a nice debate, jovial at times and made better than the last playhouse debate by the presence of John Paxman as a skilled and impartial moderator.
McVoy was the winner if you judge on the basis of understanding the issues, prudent attitude toward development, or honesty when speaking about what was likely to be possible.
Stafford was the winner on the basis of liking tall buildings in Lake Worth, expressions of anger, or willingness to promise whatever his advisers have told him people like to hear. He does not seem to grasp that its better to have control of a utility than hand it over, forever, to a board the citizens of our city have no influence with.
McVoy voted against the budget because it drew on trust funds and reserves again, and not the lower utility rate. It would pass anyway, so he took the time to take a stand for fiscal responsibility...isn't that the central issue for the city?
I noticed that Stafford has stopped talking about his website...does anyone have any screenshots of that hateful old blog?

Clearly McVoy was made to be on the defensive. That was the strategy last night. Not being a fighter, some of his comebacks were not sharp enough to hit home and make the point. I loved it when Stafford was bringing up being Hispanic as a positive and needing an Hispanic on the dais for a voice, etc. for minorities and that he had the ability to speak the language to those voters.
That's when McVoy started speaking Spanish and French. What was really offensive to me was the simple fact of catering to the immigrant vote from those who can't even speak our language. If this is what Stafford is doing, then he is part of the problem. Exploitation of the Spanish speaking minority with friends and relatives who are probably illegal to boot. Just what we need more of in our city.
Not as many people attended this debate this year, that means more people are happy with who is in and they are not so upset like years past. Things are getting better. McVoy gives a voice of reason and knowledge, Jim doesn't seem to have this, short sighted and a big trouble maker, he did that with his blog too, hope he doesn't win. That Jim looks like a BIG fool!

In your opinion lynn, s the PBP endorsement of Stafford based on an appropriate overriding consideration?
What would be the overriding consideration? Andrew Marra has always had the same idea that the electric utility was some sort of an albatross around Lake Worth's neck...no surprise. It's too bad he doesn't understand it and why we need it.
