July 4th in Lake Worth

ANNUAL TROPIC FEST

Independence Day in Lake Worth starts with a parade on Lake Avenue 9:30 with the entry rafts.  Following is the Raft Race which will be north of the marina at Bryant Park. For the first time, the City Commission  has an entry in the race. City Manager Michael Bornstein will be a part of this. This annual event starts around 11:00am. This race is always one of my favorites.

The third annual pie baking contest will be based at 531 East Boutique, a clothing store at 515 Lake Ave.  Drop off your pie at 531 East Boutique by 10 a.m. on July 4. Chefs from Lake Worth restaurants will judge the pies, after which, slices of pie will be sold for $1. The judging will begin at 2 p.m.

Vendors, food, and music will be at Bryant Park beginning at Noon.  Look for a watermelon-eating contest and music at the Bandshell.  Fireworks around 9pm.

STREET CLOSINGS:
Closed between 8:00am July 4 until approx 11:00pm.
2nd Avenue South between Federal Highway and South Golfview (south side of road only)
1st Avenue South between Federal Highway and South Golfview (south side of road only)
Lake Avenue from Federal Highway to South Ocean Blvd and the Lake Worth Bridge will be temporarily closed from approximately 7:00pm to 11:00pm

ILLEGAL FIREWORKS:
The Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office is urging Palm Beach County residents to think about safety as they make plans to celebrate the “Fourth of July.”

Every year thousands of people are killed or critically injured by fireworks, and more than half of those are children. Fireworks can result in severe burns, scars and disfigurement that can last a lifetime. “For that reason, FIREWORKS ARE ILLEGAL TO USE WITHOUT A PERMIT.

Some of the illegal fireworks prohibited for normal resale are as follows:
- Common Bottle Rockets - Firecrackers (Rolls) - Standard Fireworks
- M80’s with Mortar - M80’s - Projectile Fireworks
- Launchable Rockets with Stands

(The above listed items are only a few samples commonly purchased by people that are prohibited for sale.)

- WARNING - YOU SHOULD NOT SIGN “WAIVERS” in order to purchase fireworks. A “waiver” will not clear you of responsibility should you be caught using illegal fireworks. The Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office will be enforcing the use of illegal fireworks. Using fireworks illegally is a first degree misdemeanor punishable by up to one year in jail and a $1,000 fine.
