This is one of four courts at Lakeside Point Gardens in use every day during the Season. These people are addicts for the game. They would love to see our downtown shuffleboard courts saved--all 28 of them--so that they can get involved in national meets. These are energetic and high spirited Seniors who say, they can match their game with anyone.
In 1979 the International Shuffleboard Association was founded in St. Petersburg, Florida. Six countries—the US, England, Canada, Australia, Brazil and Japan have national associations. Shuffleboard has its own leagues and organizations and established halls of fame. Shuffleboarding is for all ages.
Tonight at 6pm is the meeting at our downtown courts. Come on out and give support in making Lake Worth a national and international destination for recreation not only at our beach and kayaking at Snook Islands but at our Shuffleboard Courts. It can be done and just another way to bring tourists to Lake Worth who will spend money in Lake Worth. We have the courts; why not save them? If we remove them we will never get them back. Let's come up with a plan to save them all.

What does it cost to maintain it? Even in a small city like LW, IMO there arent enough people playing the game to offset the cost. Keep it at the condo/apt properties. Let them pay for it.Maybe build a mini sports complex that has tennis courts, shuffleboards, horse shoe pitching, lawn bowling, etc. All of those are for older people.
I guess you didn't take a look at the video that dispels your belief that certain things are only for OLD people. Do you have something against the elderly? Sounds like a typical LW statement.
Lynn, I`m 69yo. Lived in LW over 40years. There are plenty of things to do for the younger people.
That video looked like an organized group. It takes volunteers and supervision. I dont think the city will want to be responsible for all of that. Look at all the baseball fields at NW park. Not used very much for the cost it takes to maintain it.
I heard that when Joe Kroll gets hired to be the new city manager, he is going to bring back the shuffleboard courts.
Once the courts are resurfaced, there is NO maintenance as long as people don't put chairs on them, spit on them or walk all over them.
Kroll was the guy who wanted to jackhammer them out. He does not have the vision.
Who is going to blow the leaves and sand off the courts. Who is going to pick up the broken glass, beer cans and drink cups, etc? You are wrong on the maintenance. It depends on what kind of shape you want to keep them in.
Baseball, football and basketball all have a season.
They talked about a fence there. We should find out tonight how they are going to keep the immigrants from trashing the place.
True about the season sports. They sure as heck dont play shuffleboard in Ohio like that video in the winter. Even in Florida it gets to cold at times.
A fence, Oh boy that would look great. The illegals will stuff their beer bottles and cups in it if its chainlink. A solid wood fence wont look good.
That good looking woman, fired city manager Susan Stanton would have fought to keep the shuffleboard courts opened.
No wait she's the one that unilaterly decided to close the shuffleboard courts down without any public meetings.

This was not a decision that I agreed with of Susan Stanton's. Stanton is a good looking woman--you don't think so? Next, this blog is not for you to come over and argue 24/7. Give a constructive debate. I don't seem to get that from you.
