House Judiciary Committee Chair Jim Jordan, R-Ohio, told Newsmax that Jack Smith — who served as special counsel under the Biden administration — must answer serious questions about spying on members of Congress and associates of President Donald Trump.

Jordan said newly released information shows the spy program, code-named "Operation Arctic Frost," may have targeted as many as 150 members of Congress and key Trump associates, far beyond the initial reports of just eight senators.

Jordan said Smith needs to talk, as he was managing the effort. "This is why we want to talk to Jack Smith, why we've asked him to come in for a deposition as soon as possible," Jordan said on "The Record With Greta Van Susteren."

"We have to ask him questions, because we've already deposed two of his deputies, and they took the Fifth [Amendment] 71 and 73 times." [Newsmax]

Foreign entities involved in anti-Trump donations

EU Billionaires Funneled $2B to Anti-Trump Groups

A new report revealed that five foreign charities have donated just shy of $2 billion into various American nonprofits and policy advocacy groups focused on climate change and political activism.

Americans for Public Trust released a detailed, 31-page report with receipts tracking money from foreign charities to U.S. groups.

It notes that while contributing directly to political candidates is not permitted under federal law, election-related activities like "get-out-and-vote" campaigns, some lobbying efforts, issue advertising and other politically-charged activities, are in play for foreign dollars.

"There's not a question about where it's going and where it is coming from," Americans for Public Trust executive director Caitlin Sutherland told Fox News Digital. "We know that it's foreign money coming into our U.S. policy fights, climate litigation, research, protests, lobbying, you name it."

President Donald Trump is returning to "60 Minutes" tonight, his first appearance on the show since he settled a lawsuit this summer with CBS News over the newsmagazine's interview with Kamala Harris.

Trump was interviewed by CBS' Norah O'Donnell on Friday at Mar-a-Lago for the appearance, which will air tonight.

The president has an uneasy history with television's most popular newsmagazine. But he has signaled friendlier relations with CBS News after the takeover of its parent company this summer by new Paramount CEO David Ellison, the son of wealthy supporter Larry Ellison.

CBS News offered few details Friday on how the interview came together, or whether there were any ground rules put in place. O'Donnell, the former "CBS Evening News" anchor, is not one of the show's regular correspondents.

US appeals court throws out order requiring border official to report to judge

An appeals court intervened and suddenly blocked an order that required a senior Border Patrol official to give unprecedented daily briefings to a judge about immigration sweeps in Chicago.

The one-page suspension by the 7th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals came before Greg Bovino’s first late-afternoon meeting with U.S. District Judge Sara Ellis, appointed by Barack Obama, at the courthouse in downtown Chicago.

Ellis ordered the meetings Tuesday after weeks of tense encounters and increasingly aggressive tactics by government agents working Operation Midway Blitz, which has resulted in more than 1,800 arrests and complaints of excessive force.

Bovino told Fox News that he was eager to talk to Ellis. But government lawyers were appealing her decision at the same time, calling it “extraordinarily disruptive.”

Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth has ordered the military to assign dozens of attorneys to the Department of Justice (DOJ) for temporary duty in Memphis and along the U.S.-Mexico border, according to a memo obtained by the Associated Press (AP).

A Defense Department official told Newsweek: "At the request of the U.S. Attorney's Office, the Department of Defense is detailing attorneys from the Judge Advocate General's Corps to the U.S. Attorney's Office for the District of Columbia."

"Filling critical vacancies, these attorneys will represent the United States in its D.C. Superior Court as Special Assistant United States Attorneys," the official said. "The Department is proud to stand shoulder-to-shoulder with our law enforcement partners, bringing the skill and dedication of America's service members to deliver justice, restore order, and protect the American people."

The Trump administration is carrying out the largest deportation of illegal immigrants in U.S. history, and immigrants with both illegal and legal residency have been detained.

Immigration advocacy and human rights groups have launched legal challenges against elements of the administration's policies, including deportations to third countries and the cancellation of some immigrants' legal status.

The Trump administration has dramatically reduced the number of refugees it will admit into the country in the coming year, from 125,000 last year to 7,500 this year.

The federal government published an announcement in the Federal Register on Thursday that disclosed it would cap refugee admissions at 7,500 in fiscal 2026, which began in October and ends in September 2026.

The available slots to apply have largely been reserved for people in South Africa.

“The admissions numbers shall primarily be allocated among Afrikaners from South Africa pursuant to Executive Order 14204, and other victims of illegal or unjust discrimination in their respective homelands,” the White House stated in a presidential determination.

Federal Judges Order USDA to Pay SNAP Benefits During Shutdown

42 million Americans rely on the program to buy food each month

Two federal judges on Oct. 31 said the U.S. Department of Agriculture is legally required to use emergency funds to pay out food stamps benefits during the government shutdown.

The Supplemental Nutrition and Assistance Program’s (SNAP’s) funding was set to lapse on Nov. 1 because of the government shutdown, potentially affecting the food security of more than 40 million Americans.

President Donald Trump responded to the rulings in a Truth Social post on Oct. 31. “I do NOT want Americans to go hungry just because the Radical Democrats refuse to do the right thing and REOPEN THE GOVERNMENT,” he said. “Therefore, I have instructed our lawyers to ask the Court to clarify how we can legally fund SNAP as soon as possible.”

A federal judge in Rhode Island ruled from the bench that the program must be funded using at least the contingency funds. U.S. District Judge Jack McConnell also asked for an update on progress by Monday.

Likewise, a federal judge in Massachusetts gave the administration until Monday to specify whether it would partially pay for SNAP benefits in November with contingency funds or fully pay for them with additional funding.
