We Will Never Forget

The uglier undercurrent was the way some Americans felt empowered by Sept. 11 to unleash bigotry they’d once held in. Sadly, that trend has continued; in Florida, we’ve seen state leaders label peaceful organizations as terroristic simply because they were affiliated with Islam, and legitimate protesters labeled as hooligans and threats to public safety just because what they were saying was insulting to current leaders. This isn’t entirely new, but following Sept. 11 too many governmental officials seem emboldened to play the hate card in a way that hasn’t been seen since the Jim Crow era.
On the anniversary of one of the darkest days in U.S. history, there are better ways to commemorate our losses and seek unity. And that is by remembering the ways Americans sought to underscore their shared humanity, to make each other feel safe, to celebrate the indomitable spirit that is meant to embrace us all — regardless of skin color, creed, background or other things that might otherwise serve to divide us. So long as we remember that we are all Americans first — so long as we fight to be indivisible — terror will never triumph.
May God bless the United States of America! I pray everyday for 100% conversion to Christianity in our country and around the world we need all people to convert to Christianity these Muslims and these islamist extremists are just evil vengeful haters, and they follow a satanic sect of evil making women submissive conditioning people and not allowing conversion to other faiths this sect is just evil and we need to outlaw Islam in the world! Completely evil they are a satanic sect and we need to eliminate them! Even the founders of hamas's son says that Islam is an evil satanic sect! How ironic but how true!

But it’s hard to dispute the point. Open bigotry toward Muslims is not just a way to get ahead in President Donald Trump’s Republican Party. Increasingly, it seems to be the purpose of Trump’s Republican Party. It’s the key to understanding what’s changed in the MAGA world—and what has always been like this. The targeting and vilification of an American religious group is one of the most important stories of the midterms. We’re not talking about it enough.
