Derrick Digger for Lake Worth Utilities

Comment Up
Tomorrow night there is a lot on the Agenda with 12 items on Consent.

One item is the purchase of a hydraulic Derrick Digger for the Utility Department.

They are looking to buy a 45 foot Hydraulic Derrick designed for mounting on a tracked carrier with a turntable winch, built in accordance with standard specifications including certain features necessary for their goals.

The Commission will be approving the lowest bid by Altec Industries with a cost of $141,840.

Derrick Digger? Oh not Derrick Digger I went to High School with him. He was useless then and he is still useless. He is not worth that kind of compensation.

Is this thing actually mounted on a tracked vehicle? That isnt really clear. Wont those tracks chew up the paved roads? Why not a tired vehicle? Will they need to hire a special engineer operator to operate this machine? I thought the city already owned equipment to handle this job. Just like they always have done. An auger on a boom truck. Maybe I miss understood what they need this for.I guess all the important questions will be asked at the meeting.

A 35 inch wide backyard machine. It fits through any backyard gate. The utility will need at least two of these machines for the conversion, possibly more. One like this digger derrick, and one with a knuckle boom and bucket. They will also require rubber mats to lay down ahead of the machine to protect the homeowners turf.

It fits through any 35 in. gate? What happened to all the utility easements, such as an alley? Are they going to need another type of machine for sewer pipe repairs? Home owners shouldnt have fences, shrubs, trees, utilty buildings, etc. in an easement. There should always be an easement or clear path to any city electric pole, water line or sewage line. Next they will want a chuckwagon type truck so the workers will have a place to buy lunch from. Geez, I wonder how they handled this access problem in the past?
