Quote of the Day - Rand Paul - Bill Clinton and Monica

"Bill Clinton epitomizes the aggressor, not the victim. He thinks  he's still somehow a victim and in no world was it ever appropriate for the president of the United States to be having sex under his desk with a 20 year-old."

~ Rand Paul

I agree--it was definitely not appropriate, an understatement. However, I think we all need to drop this subject. Monica Lewinsky was not a victim; she knew exactly what she was doing. She was 22 when it started and it was over a two year period. No one twisted her arm; no one coerced her; no one forced her. She was a willing participant.

"In January 1998, Linda Tripp discovered that Lewinsky had sworn an affidavit in the Paula Jones case, denying a relationship with Clinton." [Wikipedia]  At some point in time, everyone needs to be responsible for their own actions and that includes Lewinsky and Clinton. And the rest of us now need to move on.

Revealed unknown evidence in Michael Flynn case

Newly-leaked evidence from Trump lawyers supports the contention that FBI did not believe Michael Flynn lied.

More importantly, the evidence also suggests that President Trump thought the probe was all but over when the ‘letting this go’ conversation with James Comey happened. This will definitely put a crimp in obstruction allegations.

Citizen's Advisory Committee - Bond Referendum

The purpose of this committee is to review all expenditures from the bond proceeds (40 million) for improving local roadways and eliminating potholes in the City. Ord. No. 2016-47 – effective October 15, 2016, a fourteen-member committee was created composed of seven members of the City’s Finance Advisory Board and seven members, two members selected by the Mayor and two members to be selected by the Vice Mayor and one member selected by each City Commissioner.

After attending Monday night's meeting, you would never know what their mission is.

The meeting began 24 minutes late at 7:24pm. I only stayed for 20 minutes as I had attended the Finance Advisory Board meeting prior to that. The back-up was impossible to discern as it gave project numbers and districts but did not identity the streets. There was no way to tell if the work to date was over or under budget.

The committee did not get the agenda or their back-up documents until Monday morning (the day of the meeting), insufficient time to study it. A motion was made by Kathleen McGiveron to post-pone the meeting to a time certain in order to give all the committee members time to analyze the information.. The motion failed as many members wanted to hear staff's presentation anyway as they had given up their time to be there.

Originally when this committee was formed, all members of the FAB automatically became members of this new committee. The Bond Committee meeting began with member Tom Copeland attempting to lead the meeting. As Richard Guercio had been fired from the Finance Advisory  Board (he learned about it by watching the city commission online) for supposedly having a board meeting out of the sunshine, he felt that he was still on the Bond Committee (which is a separate committee) as chair and took over the meeting saying that his appointment would be decided at the commission meeting on Tuesday.

Last night at the city commission meeting, Richard Guercio and Katie McGiveron both spoke about the Advisory Bond Committee, both having the same complaint--no documentation given to them in a timely fashion. As this is a most important board consisting of appointees by city commissioners to watch over expenditures of taxpayer money, there needs to be better communication between staff and committee members.

Mr. Guercio has not been notified whether he is also fired from the Bond Committee or if he is still Chair.  His name has been deleted from the Lake Worth web site as a member but no one from the City has officially contacted him.. And last night, Glen Torcivia never uttered a word. about the subject.  Is Mr. Guercio to assume he is or isn't on this committee?  Is this the way to treat volunteers?

Mitch McConnell Cancels Senate’s Traditional August Recess

“Senators should expect to remain in session in August to pass legislation, including appropriations bills, and to make additional progress on the president’s nominees...

“Due to the historic obstruction by Senate Democrats of the president’s nominees, and the goal of passing appropriations bills prior to the end of the fiscal year, the August recess has been canceled,” McConnell said.

Barbara Jean's Memorial Tree

Last Friday at 9am, there was a tree planting for our departed friend, Barbara Jean. I had to miss it because of a class so I went there yesterday to find it.

If you are on South Lakeside, park right past 3rd Avenue South and walk through to Bryant Park.

Directly to the left as you enter the park, you will see her memorial tree with the plaque. This loving  plaque will be up for a short time, so if you have a chance to pay your respects, go and say "hi" to Barbara Jean. I bet she is saying, "I can hear your loving thoughts and I am ok, Hon."

Barbara Jean will love this tree. Below is what it will look like fully grown, beautiful, just like Barbara.

MAGA

Quote of the day - Donald Trump -Eagles Insult our President

“"The Philadelphia Eagles are unable to come to the White House with their full team to be celebrated tomorrow. They disagree with their president because he insists that they proudly stand for the national anthem, hand on heart, in honor of the great men and women of our military and the people of our country.”

 ~ President Donald Trump

Fewer than 10 members of the Super Bowl champions' team were planning to attend the celebration today on the South Lawn despite weeks of planning for the event. This event is nonpolitical but a large segment of the Eagles team made this celebration of a football victory political. Instead, there will be a celebration at 3pm to honor America. All other invited guests are still invited to attend.

It is a total disgrace that these football players would insult the president in this manner. But when you invite guests to the "people's house" and the majority decide to disrespect the host and their American fans,  you cancel the party. The president is not going to fool around with fools.

Lake Worth settles another lawsuit

There are so many people who don't take responsibility for their own problems or accidents.  Many suits are justified; many are not. We are clueless about this one but we are a litigious society.

In Florida, the state follows what is known as a “pure comparative fault” system, in which your level of negligence is not a bar to recovery for your injuries even if you were mostly at fault for them. In other words, if the jury found that you were 80 percent at fault for the accident, then you would still be able to recover 20 percent of your damages from the other party. [Dolman Law Group]

This settlement with this woman never got to trial and the city gave us zero details. I would guess that the insurance company wanted to get it closed as it's been going on since 2015. The City filed a Motion to Dismiss on 6-15-16. We spend a lot of money on legal fees that perhaps should be settled way before they are.

Approval of settlement with Plaintiff, Virginia Giambrone for $40,500.00, (inclusive of attorney fees) which means she will end up with a whole lot less (She hired a personal injury specialist). Only lawyers make out in lawsuits.

SUMMARY:
The Approval will settle a claim with Ms. Giambrone for injuries she sustained in March 2015. If approved, the claimant will execute a general release in favor of the City.

BACKGROUND AND JUSTIFICATION:
Plaintiff, Virginia Giambrone, filed a Complaint against the City of Lake Worth for damages she incurred.

Specifically, Plaintiff alleges that on March 22, 2015, she was invitee on the premises located at 10 South Ocean Boulevard in Lake Worth, Florida. She was sitting on a City of Lake Worth bench at the Lake Worth Pier at or near Benny’s on the Beach, and when she stood up to walk towards the side walk, she tripped and fell on the “wing” (what in the hell is the "wing?"--must be the part that sticks out from the base, you know, a normal bench) of the bench. Plaintiff alleges the City’s negligence and claims she suffered bodily injury and resulting in pain and suffering, disability, disfigurement, mental anguish, medical care and treatment in the past and future.

As a result of Plaintiff’s fall, Plaintiff suffered a fracture of the right humeral head and neck, and neck and back pain. She had to have surgery and underwent a year of physical therapy. To date, Plaintiff’s medical bills total approximately $47,000. Based upon the potential liability, the injuries sustained, and the medical bills incurred, staff recommends approval of settlement for $40,500.00.

The settlement is contingent upon City Commission approval.
