Juneteenth should not be handed over to the same political machine that spent generations fighting the freedom it now pretends to celebrate.

Abraham Lincoln was America’s first Republican president. The Republican Party was born as an anti-slavery party.

The Emancipation Proclamation began the destruction of slavery in the rebellious states, and General Gordon Granger’s order in Galveston carried that news to Texas on June 19, 1865.

Then Republicans drove the Thirteenth Amendment into the Constitution, permanently abolishing slavery.

That history matters because truth matters. Juneteenth is not Democrat Party mythology. It is Republican liberation history. [Luthmann]
