Rep. Toby Overdorf formally launched his 2028 campaign for the Florida Senate on Monday, filing to succeed term-limited Sen. Gayle Harrell in District 31, which covers parts of Martin, St. Lucie, and Palm Beach counties.A Republican and environmental consultant from Palm City, Overdorf has served in the House since 2018.
Rep. Toby Overdorf formally launched his campaign Monday to succeed term-limited Sen. Gayle Harrell in District 31. The Palm City Republican, who has represented parts of the Treasure Coast in the House since 2018, becomes the first candidate in the race for the seat, which includes Martin County and portions of St. Lucie and Palm Beach counties.
Florida Politics was first to report the announcement. “Grateful for the opportunity to earn your support!” Rep. Overdorf said on Monday. Overdorf, is an environmental consultant by trade.
Also on Monday, Gov. Ron DeSantis celebrated newly released school accountability scores showing year-over-year improvements across Florida’s public schools.
The state reported a rise in A-rated schools from 38% to 44% and a 39% drop in failing schools, with DeSantis crediting the state’s progress monitoring system for boosting student outcomes.
