Gun Rights in U.S. Post Offices

Judge rules post office gun ban unconstitutional

A federal judge in Florida declared on Friday that a U.S. law barring people from possessing firearms in post offices is unconstitutional, citing a landmark U.S. Supreme Court ruling from 2022 that expanded gun rights.

U.S. District Judge Kathryn Kimball Mizelle, appointed by former Republican President Donald Trump, reached this conclusion while dismissing a portion of an indictment that charged a postal worker with unlawfully possessing a firearm in a federal facility, as Newsmax reported.

At the center of this controversy was Emmanuel Ayala, a postal worker accused of possessing a firearm within a federal facility.

Judge Mizelle, presiding over the case in Tampa, dismissed the possession charge against Ayala.

She articulated that such a blanket prohibition on guns in post offices contradicts the Second Amendment's guarantee of the right to keep and bear arms.

I've been waiting for this for so long. I hated having to leave my gun in the car while I ran in and bought stamps but now I won't have to.

The Post Office was one the last places I felt naked and open to attack so this makes me feel a lot better.

The first thing I say about anybody carrying weapon how many rounds have you put through it and can you actually hit something under stress I train and train every day with my weapon I put 200 or 300 rounds to it a day I practice sitting with it shooting it jumping out of a car shooting it I make sure I can actually hit something and not somebody a block away so if you're going to carry it you should know how to use it properly
