Gulfstream Hotel renovation is a go: Tense back-and-forth meeting finalizes $104 million deal

"A feisty, standing-room only crowd of residents repeatedly jeered, booed and interrupted McVoy despite persistent, but ineffectual requests by Mayor Betty Resch for decorum and civility.

After one outburst, Resch threatened to clear the room and directed a sheriff's captain to remove anyone who disrupted the meeting. It did not appear that anyone was made to leave.

McVoy, along with Commissioners Kim Stokes and Reinaldo Diaz, have been the targets of blistering attacks on social media for months from those who believe they were against the Gulfstream project."

This was much more than a "feisty" crowd. They were rude and well organized to give the three on the dais all the grief they could muster up to ensure a favorable vote for the project. Cost to the taxpayers of this city did not matter. All they knew was, they wanted it...period. Even their signs were professionally made. It is disheartening to have neighbors attacking elected officials in this fashion.

As you all know, in the end, the vote was 5/0 to proceed with the Gills on developing the Hotel and its property.
