Commission to discuss our Beach Park tonight

Tonight at 5pm City Hall, the Commission will meet to discuss the next steps at Lake Worth's ocean park beach complex.

We have been fighting off developers and public/private partnerships for years in order to keep our pool, casino, pier and our park in the operational hands of the city.

No matter how inept city staff might believe they are in managing our most valuable asset, we the people want our pool rebuilt and marketed properly. Anything to the contrary should be voted on by the residents.

The best - and really only way - for us to rebuild the beach complex and the pool to make it a profitable and sustainable project, is via a PROPER public/private partnership.

It's not "selling" the beach. We'd be leasing the land and - wait for it - collecting rent far in excess of what we could ever make on our own.

Ever.

On top of that, we'd still be collecting parking fines, as a developer would have no judicial standing to write tickets, which should increase in a linear fashion if more parking were built.

It's no different from the City leasing the pier to Benny's.

Math and structure, not emotion, is the ultimate arbiter.
