Omari Hardy to run for Florida House

Commissioner Omari Hardy announces run for State House

Omari Hardy is throwing his hat in the ring to run for the Florida House of Representatives District 88.

Omari made his announcement on his Facebook page:

"It's true. I am running to represent District 88 in the Florida House of Representatives. I decided to run not lightly, but after many conversations with family, friends, and residents of District 88, and also after carefully examining the record and behavior of the incumbent. I believe that District 88 can benefit not only from a more present and responsive representative, but from a representative with first-hand experience as a public educator and affordable housing advocate.

As State Representative, I will be a presence in District 88. My constituents will know where to find me, and I will fight for them from Delray Beach to Riviera Beach, from Palm Beach County to the halls of the Florida Capitol. I will fight for more public education funding and for higher base pay for teachers. I will fight to ensure that Florida’s affordable housing trust funds are really used to fund affordable housing. And I will fight to bring state grants and appropriations home to District 88.

I look forward to hearing more from the residents of District 88 over the course of this campaign. And I look forward to earning their votes and to representing them in the legislature."

Unlike Lake Worth commission seats with terms that go forever, members of the Florida House of Representatives serve two-year terms with term limits. Members of the House may serve no more than four consecutive terms. Florida legislators assume office two weeks following their election. Also, from the map, it looks like Omari will have to move in order to represent District 88 as representatives must live in the District they intend to serve.

Not surprised about Hardy. He will be better than that Jaquet guy and probably have the help of Andrew Gillum.

Gov DeSantis is planning on raising the base minimum pay for teachers by $10,000 to $47,500.

What in the hell will Herman do? I would guarantee that Mike Bornstein is happy about this news.

Now he needs another new address so he can run in that district. He only used LWB as his first stepping stone, his bigger ambitions are no surprise. He's burnt too many bridges in LWB, and probably faces getting recalled if he stayed. District 88 constituents need to know about his love of ADU's and Airbnb's. I wonder who's funding this campaign? Hmmmmmm.

He won in a landslide last year. He is the only one (just about) who reads and comprehends the back-up...he asks questions...he keeps Bornstein on his toes. He's done a good job other than the ADU fiasco--that was a major mistake. He wants to keep our pool at the beach. He has butted heads with some on the dais and many times has lost on a 3/2 or a 4/1 vote. Should he win the general election, he will be butting heads in the Florida Legislature as well. But he's great at filibustering to make his point (that most of the dais don't understand).

Lifetime politicians, he is like that, will live off the government too better then welfare recipients, he knows how to work the system too, good or bad, they need term limits on all and less pay so these do not become career politicians, that is the biggest problem here in the USA now. jeff did the same thing and look what happened to him.

Jeff was forced to resign. He was heading for Congress and blew it. As mentioned, the Legislature is term limited. Omari has a plan for his life. Nothing wrong with that.

I like Omari. I voted for him. However, since I know his stance on ADU's, I can no longer support him.

Interesting. I also voted for Omari. WTF?

Who going to hold Herman’s hand? Some dummy is going to get elected in Omari’s place and make a nice second income/car allowance for 3 years. PS this dummy will probably make more then his or her real job if they have one. Sad!

Unfortunately, what you say is probably true. This is what usually happens in Lake Worth. Not a whole lot of willing and able candidates.

Omari had a very willing and able opponent. She would still be an excellent choice.

You're entitled to your opinion.

I don't think she had any qualifications at all. Her business didn't even have an address. Is that all there is?
