Lake Worth, Fl - At 11:20pm on April 9th, 2018, an overhead wire, used to divert lightning, broke loose and made contact with energized high voltage equipment at the main point of delivery for Lake Worth Electric Utilities external power supply. This resulted in a fire which caused a system wide outage. To provide intermediary power the Lake Worth Municipal Power Plant was brought on line at 11:40pm and by 4:30am on April 10th, achieved its maximum power generation providing for 19,600 customers. Staff were able to safely make repairs and successfully restored the external power supply at 6:14am and all customer power was restored at 6:47am. The power plant came off line at 7am.

The initial cause of the overhead wire breakage has yet to be determined but the incident will be investigated fully to understand the cause of the failure. Lake Worth Electric Utilities would like to thank all customers for their patience and understanding during this event.

“Great cooperation and assistance were provided by FPL and various City employees who worked safely through the night to restore the system.”
-Ed Liberty, Lake Worth Electric Utilities Director

No wind.No reason for a wire to "break loose". Incompetence rides again.
