Comment Up
Last night during Public Comment on non-agenda items, I pointed out to the Commission that the deadline to apply for CDBG funds is less than 2 weeks away. As you already know, the CDBG program is one that I have followed closely and spoken out on many, many times.
Perhaps I am being paranoid, but I find it difficult to believe that the City had *no* idea that the deadline is right around the corner. Is it possible that an application has been or will be submitted without the required public input meetings? Would it be that the City is looking for even MORE money for it's ill-conceived and unpopular "Housing Initiative?"
Keep in mind that in addition to the potential loss of this years funds, the City is still sitting on the $350,000 it set aside for the "Housing Initiative." Although they have advertised for a Housing Manager (@ $80k/year!), the position has not been filled and NOTHING has been done to even implement the program.
In the past, the City has lost CDBG funds because they were unable to get moving on the programs the money was designated for. The $350k has already been "reprogrammed" once because the City didn't act on their original plans. How long until the County decides that there are other Cities and dozens of other non-profits that can use $350k immediately? How long until the Commission pays attention to their Finance Advisory Board that has TWICE recommend that the City suspend the program and use the money for parks, sidewalks, streets and traffic calming?

Thank you, Lynn.
I would also like to point out that the City employs a full-time grants analyst and that all of this information was easily accessible on the Palm Beach County website.
Yes. We have all the affordable housing a city would ever need and then some. Let's use this money where it will do the most good.
Absolutely use it where it will benefit all residents. Take 1/2 hire a new city manager and let Stanton walk with the rest before she really destroys the city.
Stanton is not destroying the City, let's make that clear. It is all those who have been caught up in the hype who have small minds who are destroying it. This BS is like a snow ball rolling down a hill with you and your gang hopefully at the bottom. SPLAT.
I have been staying out of this frey and listening to both sides of the stories. However I have been accused of hatred on several posts on this blog. Well the last statement by Ms. Anderson seems to be filled with hate. Really,"a snowball rolling down a hill with you and your gang hopefully at the bottom. Splat." I understand that you did add Hope in the messsage with the "hopefully" remark. You have a blog in which your oppinions are expressed and you invite others to do the same. You may construe some of those remarks as hateful but may not be intented as such. I am hopeful your remark will not be taken this way by readers who may not understand the intensity of the Stanton subject.
Awhhh gee--you didn't like that? :)
Great idea. It would definitely solve our Budget problem and everyone int he world would want to live here and spend big dollars. Let's go with it.
