Anthony Pugliese

R
emember Anthony Pugliese III? As it turns out, not only is he a builder but a collector of Pop Culture.

This is the guy who wanted to build a hotel on our beach. This all happened during the Rodney Romano regime not that many years ago. As the Greater Bay contract was made to flip, who is to say that he is still not lurking around town? He has given campaign contributions to "friends" running here in Lake Worth.

He didn't get hold of our Lake Worth Beach but he did get hold of 41,300 acres or 64 square miles in Osceola County for his planned community, Destiny.

Perhaps he needs money as I read some time back that he was suing his former partner, Fred DeLuca, co-founder of Subway Restaurants for $5 billion.

PR for the Pugliese Collection:

"The Pugliese Pop Culture Collection
may well be the finest collection focusing on 20th Century pop culture ever privately assembled. Approximately eight hundred and fifty of the most extraordinary objects imaginable from the worlds of motion pictures, popular music, magic, television and politics were gathered over several decades by Anthony Pugliese, a man who might well be described as a true visionary.

A small sampling of the Collection's treasures include Houdini's straightjacket, the Maltese Falcon statuette, Christopher Reeves' Superman suit, John Lennon's Abbey Road suit, Elvis Presley's personal rifle collection and the gun that Jack Ruby used to kill Lee Harvey Oswald. Indeed, Mr. Pugliese is sharing his wonderful Collection with the rest of the world as he shifts his interests towards the creation of Destiny, the nation's largest eco-sustainable community currently being sensitively created in central Florida.

His collection will be auctioned off on May 15 at 2:00 PM ET at Guernsey's in New York City. A portion of the proceeds from this remarkable event are earmarked for the Audubon Society, long known for its important environmental work."

Pugliese is a true something ,alright. His nightmare development"Destiny" should be called "Insanity".Just what Florida needs, more,THOUSANDS more, empty homes. Forget about the environmentally sensitive lands that would be destroyed. How many more elected officials did Pug Boy have to put in his pocket to get this monstrosity approved in the first place? Pug Boy has some connection to Shannon Materio's business, Mcmow Art Glass. Can anyone comment further on the connection?

I’m always happy to comment on the business my husband, Phil and I have built here in Lake Worth. McMow Art Glass is proud of our “connection” to the Pugliese family which began with the restoration of an historic property acquired by the Pugliese’s.
While most potential buyers planned to demolish the historic home built by one of the Phipps brothers in 1921, Mr. and Mrs. Pugliese chose to restore the property.

McMow Art Glass had the good fortune of being commissioned by the Pugliese family to restore original stained glass windows for this splendid home. McMow Art Glass is the 25th largest art glass studio in the US and a portion of our business is dedicated to restoration. McMow Art Glass is one of only a handful of studios qualified to do historic restoration in the art glass medium.

McMow Art Glass did the restoration and all of the new art glass at the Versace mansion in the 90’s and have recently been awarded the restoration contract for the Dade county owned historic property of the John Dearing estate, (Vizcaya) . The important historical work at Vizcaya is being supervised by well know conservator, Rosa Lowinger, Conservation of Art and Architecture, Los Angeles, Miami, and Honolulu.

McMow Art Glass is our (Philip & Shanon Materio) 32 year old business. It has been located in LW for 18 years. We are proud to be here and to grow with the city. McMow employs 17 people. Many have been inspired to move here and buy a home in Lake Worth. Among our diverse work force we employ artists and craftspeople from Germany, Cuba, Israel, Guatemala, Honduras and the US, all legal and all have green cards. Five McMow employees moved here from other states to begin careers at McMow.

How wonderful that this City does recognize and celebrate the arts and culture. If you have any other concerns or questions about Shanon, Phil or McMow Art Glass please stop by 701 North Dixie Highway any time. Shanon L Materio, Pres. (minority business owner) McMow Art Glass Inc

Shanon & Phil- Thanks for an interesting history on your company and some of your clients. This must have been for Pugliese's oceanfront mansion in Gulfstream. Property is appraised at over $21 million.
