Karen Bass backs out of Los Angeles mayoral forum after signing commitment to attend
Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass withdrew from a televised mayoral candidate forum scheduled for May 13 on FOX 11, just two weeks after she signed a document confirming she would be there.The forum's co-sponsors, the League of Women Voters and the Pat Brown Institute for Public Affairs, announced the pullout publicly and made clear they were not happy about it.
The withdrawal drew sharp criticism from organizers, who said voters deserved to see Bass face her opponents on live television during what they called "a period of extraordinary challenges" for the city. Bass confirmed her attendance on April 22 by signing a formal commitment form for the 2026 Mayoral Candidate Forum. Organizers even posted a photograph of the signed document on Instagram.
