The fastest swimmer in his heyday he now lives in Lake Worth Beach

He escaped LA fires with a dog and his life

Gary Hall now lives in Lake Worth Beach

All 6'6" Gary Hall Jr. had time to grab, as the Los Angeles January fires bore down on his home, were his dog and his insulin. Among his losses: 10 Olympic medals.

That plume erupted into a devasting fire that came rolling down the side of the mountain, engulfing everything in its path.

"Once it ignited with winds being what they were, you basically have a wall of fire moving down the hill at 60 miles an hour," Hall said. "I'm seeing homes go up. I'm seeing explosions. Cars blowing up. And it's moving fast.

"It went from a small plume of smoke to a mountain of fire in about three minutes."

His 10 Olympic medals that were replaced in May by the International Olympic Committee.
