Residents at the Arts Loft on Lucerne getting flooded out of their homes

Lake Worth Beach residents upset as homes flood during rain

Residents plead for any help they can get

Well, they have been pleading for sometime now but they have not heard back from the City. The developer says it is the City's fault.

"We're looking at the drainage of 6 inches of water that flooded into our homes," said Marcele Bassett, who lives in the West Village Arts Lofts along North F Street and Lucerne Avenue.

"When I stepped down, my foot just splattered in water and my heart just broke because I knew we had missed our opportunity to try and save the furniture and our belongings," said Bassett.

Bassett said the flooding is a reoccurring issue he said has cost him nearly $70,000 in damages.

Parts of Hypoluxo Island were also flooded, and the people couldn't get out of their homes.

FEMA doesn't cover this type of water damage, but a homeowner's policy might.

Solutions to these types of water problems, don't come easy.

Before you develop a property, are there not engineers who advise on this sort of thing?
The P&Z must have approved of the project.

Who knows Lynn? I doubt it is in the 100 year Flood Plain. Even Flood Insurance won't help you unless it is declared a Flood Emergence by FEMA.

Caveat Emptor! Let the Buyer Beware!

All they can do is look at the Flood Map. They are not prognosticators. They can't see into the future.

They can undertake engineering studies for areas where they want to build...Engineers must prepare floodway encroachment analyses to evaluate the property they want to develop. This is done all of the time.

I doubt if that kind of a study would be done on a few little houses. It's an unfortunate event, but it happens all the time somewhere. They have to see what their insurance policies cover.
