Hanson was a registered Democrat at one time, now an Independent. In his book, The Case for Trump, Hanson blames Barack Obama for "deliberately [whipping up]" "much of the current division in the country.

I was a Democrat for years and finally saw the light. It took Obama for me to reject the party forever.
I really admire Victor Davis Hanson as one of the smartest men alive.
