You pot heads are going to love this--maybe soon, we will have little shops set up right on Lake Avenue for marijuana smoking instead of kava sipping. Thanks to Obama, the Justice Department has told federal prosecutors to focus their resources on eight specific areas of marijuana enforcement, rather than targeting individual marijuana users, which even President Obama has acknowledged is not the best use of federal manpower. Jails are over crowded and the government, unless you are a big dealer, is giving up on those smoking the funny stuff. Instead they will be focusing on--
- preventing distribution of marijuana to minors
- preventing the sale of pot to cartels and gangs
- preventing sales to other states where the drug remains illegal under state law
- stopping the growing of marijuana on public lands.

MARIJUANA IS NOT MEDICINE
The FDA, which must approve all medicines, has reviewed scientific studies of marijuana for over 50 years and concludes it is not a safe or effective medicine, has the potential for harm and is addictive. It cannot be legally prescribed by any doctor. National medical associations for cancer, glaucoma, multiple sclerosis and others oppose using marijuana as a medicine, other than synthetic marijuana called Marinol, which is FDA approved and available in pill form. Lynn,
Very judgmental of you to call anyone who might smoke once in a while a "pot head." So using that logic, anyone who drinks a single glass of beer or wine one a month is an alcoholic? Hate to inform you, but there are many, many, very intelligent, successful, accomplished, honest, ethical, and admirable people who may partake in a toke here and there, just like he or she might have a fine glass of wine with dinner. I think you may have watched "Reefer Madness" one too many times.
Did I say anything about someone smoking pot "once in awhile?" NO. Please read and then comprehend and stop re-writing what I wrote. I don't give a darn if you smoke every now and then. It's ILLEGAL. Never heard of Reefer Madness but obviously you are quite familiar with it. cough, cough. :)
Lynn, don't you think that pot is less dangerous than alcohol? I've never heard of anyone killing anyone by car b/c of being stoned. Granted, pot makes one lethargic and ergo perhaps unaccomplished, but sheesh, isn't it better than booze? Overdoing alcohol leads to numerous tragedies - bar fights, violence, abuse, etc.
Overdo pot and you go to sleep...
I'd turn one over for the other any day.
Hi, you could be right. One thing I do know is that it can, and I SAY "can," LEAD TO BIGGER ADDICTIONS AND DANGEROUS ONES.
The city commission last night voted in open containers at city events in our downtown, city parks and even at our beach. They must feel that booze is A-ok. Can you even imagine it all in reverse and everyone walking in our downtown at the street painting festival STONED?
I don't agree at all...pot is a very benign 'high', as opposed to alcohol. Having smoked pot decades ago, and working with addicts today, I honestly do not believe that pot is addictive (except perhaps psychologically), nor does the recreational user seek out a crack or heroin or cocaine high, as a result of smoking pot.
If one is a true addict, then all drugs &alcohol must be off the table. No ifs ands or buts.
I'd much rather see pot at say, frat parties than alcohol where students are forced to drink shots until some have died from alcohol poisoning.
Forced to take too many puffs of pot would lead only to sleep :) actually if alcohol were out, and pot in, all the hazing would probably cease completely and they'd sit around eating pizza and watching a funny movie. :)
