New Web Site on Lake Worth

Comment Up
Another one...just in time for the election! This time there is no name behind the politics. Whoever is behind it even took out a .com address. They mean business.

Who is behind it? Paranoid people who believe that we have been taken over by shhhh, anarchists? The Republican Party? The developer/Realtor crowd? Or just plain "pissed off people" who are tired of not being in control or listened to?

Until there is a name behind this, it will just be another attack web site sugared with credible links to fool you. There is not one commissioner that is 100% on the money...not one, and there never will be. But the only purpose of this web site is that of turning the 3 to 2 vote on the dais, not only this year but to regain control well into the future. When someone has to tell you that they are the "truth," red flags need to go up. Until you know who is behind it, beware.

It's just TRUTH.....nothing to be scared of..... This site...truthoutlw.com, provides an easier way to navigate our horribly convoluted and outdated lakeworth.org site. I don't know who did it, but I am happy they did. Congrats!
Nothing on that site is not already on our town website....it's just not BURIED. Technology on the townsite sometimes make information searching seem like 'discovery' in a legal case, where you are spammed with info. I am not knocking the info available there, just the ease of finding it... Whoever did this new site is making it simpler, and I hope it helps a few new people get informed and educated. I'd love to see a few new faces out there.... I am pretty new, and I am findout 'how' to look for things, and I would have appreciated a site like that initially. It takes out some of the steps... After looking at the info from the source, I am able to formulate my own opinion. I like to do that... My opinion does not have to be that of the crowd, although it might be similar in some cases. Now is a time when the PEOPLE may be more important than the elected officials....and we all need to share our voice with those elected officials....and let them know the direction out town should take. Blogs really sometimes cut to the chase...and i really love the Lake Worth Blogs, but I want to see the backup....and the TruthOutLW site hopefully helps us get that too! I look forward to seeing how it progresses.

If this is going to be a legitimate web site for facts, then let's get all the facts out not just some they want to harp upon. Don't try and bullchit the public here.

t.p. you must be one of those people smoking weed.

tp said...

nope....not a pothead...just an educated and informed citizen who doesn't like all the bullchit. Like Lynn said...

To tp, if you can't read between the lines here then you are not as educated as you want us to believe. This is just an anonymous web site for the purpose of presenting one side of the truth.

tp said...

If you had read my post you would realize I have my own opinion....and am capable of sifting through the objective and subjective.... Maybe you'd better find someone else to argue with....

tp said...

and what about a direct link to a government website location is 'one side of the truth'?
Yes there are comments...but they are not the meat of the site. I for one and going to USE that site for what it is....a tool.

Go for it, t.p. And will the REAL t.p. come forward?

Yet again it seems many in Lake Worth are proving to be the antithesis to etiquette in our election process. The unrelenting digs at Rachel Waterman by the opposition are an all too obvious attempt at creating dissent and confusion amongst our citizens and a desperate attempt by those incapable of making a stand on their own merits.
The diverted focus from the facts is a blatant use of the oldest military strategy in the book: Divide and Conquer. This strategy creates or encourages division among the people; to prevent alliances, challenging the powers that be, by fostering dissent between local rulers. Democracy, by definition, is a government by the people; and the people of Lake Worth elected those who helped create the chaos that led us where we are today. Ms. Waterman, did not (and could not) get us here alone. She is, however, making every attempt to make some sense of the mess with concrete plans for the future that are beyond empty campaign promises. In her short term she and others have saved 12 million dollars over the next 10 years. As a long term resident this makes me feel secure about her decisions to date.
To be civilized one must act with restraint; to live in a society one must learn to work with and get along with others. We in Lake Worth seem to be far from a civilized society, in which, there are those who know the subtle difference between what is fair play and what is fair game.
If those interested in 'so called' truth are then they should not hide and post a blog page on their website to allow for rebuttal. In any 'truth' there are always two sides to a story; any intelligent person knows that.

To the anonymous blogger who objected by stating: "If those interested in 'so called' truth are then they should not hide and post a blog page on their website to allow for rebuttal."---might I suggest that your statement "12 million dollars over the next 10 years."---is a gross misrepresentation of a material fact as it assumes projected numbers that are not included in the unnamed contract.
Also, the obviously biased and agenda driven statement: "To be civilized one must act with restraint; to live in a society one must learn to work with and get along with others. We in Lake Worth seem to be far from a civilized society, in which, there are those who know the subtle difference between what is fair play and what is fair game."--is divisive and obviously only your pejorative view of the Truth!

Lot of words..when the only thing about Waterman on the whole site is a direct transcript of words from public record. there is a Contact page on the site, where you can comment.
You are practicing what you are preaching against my friend...

Dear D.E.B. (???)It seems your intention is to defend a website on which the use of ellipsis is rampant in an effort to "misrepresent" those they quote. Also your take on the 12 million "projected" numbers indicates you have concrete evidence to the contrary and if so you should be able to provide this evidence on a blog link to a website that appears to suggest they represent the whole of Lake Worth. Your view of fairness as an "agenda" does not surprise me as it seems you are missing my point. Yes we all have our preferred candidates and yes we all have our own agendas but to truly progress we must learn to be a civilized society and work together; otherwise we just get more of the same verbal bravado. As to my "pejorative" view; I read nothing negative in my "opinion", only enlightenment. I also do not hide my identity; I am as it plainly states "AGvocacy" my name is Dina Clingman-Bell, something which an easy click on my identy could have proven along with photo and email link. I have nothing to hide - do you?

...why is it that every time someone uses any form of mass communication to communicate there are people more than ready to shoot the messenger rather than consider the content of the message. Oh, and why is it always those GOP people....I recall a vicious last minute attack on the only republican that sits on the commission...presumably at the hands of non republicans...is the point of this blog that only republicans are capable of dirty tricks?

Lynn Anderson said...

Sorry you missed my point.
I have talked about dirty tricks before on many occasions. The last time was the special election. Prior to that it was the dirty Demcrats who supported Ron Klein and did the dirty against a fine patriot, Allen West.
So, no, it's not the purpose of this blog to take a crack at Republicans. In this case, Scott Maxwell IS one; Waterman is NOT and neither is Golden.

Victoria Murphy said...

AGvocacy, aka Dina Clingman-Bell, aren't you the individual who started yelling/attacking Dustin Zacks after the TRNA forum? That behavior sure didn't show you acting with "restraint." You "must learn to work with and get along with others."

Waterman did not save LW $12 million by any action of her own. Yes, the new contract with PB Fire Rescue does eliminate the supplemental payment saving the city $12 million, but the PB County Commission agreed to the contract change with encouragement from the firefighters union. No one individual on the Commission can take credit for that.

Waterman has encouraged the politics of division by her arrogant, dimissive, and divisive attitude. Her "Lovers & Haters" speech at the LW Playhouse Debate was an insult to everyone who cares about Lake Worth, but doesn't share Waterman's view. That is more divisive than a web site that provides comments made by Commissioners and staff and links to the City web page.

I have my own mind and will form my own opinion based upon all the information I can amass. If TruthOutLW.com provides another source of information, I welcome it. I try to attend the meetings at City Hall, but I am not always able to make it or listen to the live audio. Who wants to go back and listen to 4-5 hours of audion to learn what happens? By the way, I don't remember seeing you in the Commission Chamber very often over the past year?

AGvocacy said...

Dear T.P. (???) You are a bottom line person right? Well the bottom line is there is a contact page that is not up for public comment only review by anonymous monitors of the website. As to your remark regarding my “protest” I cannot imagine anyone would think I portray with my words and my all too visible identity that I mean anything but what I say. My opinion is to ultimately suggest we create unity not division in addition to focusing on what is working. I admit, I too find it hard to remain objective but it would behoove the entire community to learn to do so. It would be in our best interest to stop yet another venue from creating division and diverting attention, time and resource away from progress. I for one am tired of these antics. I have and will always do my utmost to support our mayor in office whomever that may be. What say you?

AGvocacy said...

Dear Ms. Victoria Murphy,

I was in the car driving home from my son's karate lesson, then home to drive my daughter to a babysitting job, then home again to begin making dinner for my family; all of which can be proven and all during the time frame of the TRNA forum. It appears you my dear are the one who must show some restraint. I also stated in my original post Mayor Waterman "she and others" in reference to the 12 million. Honestly people...

tp said...

Going back to my original post. I believe this is a way to get more people involved and take a few steps out of the process for those who work for a living, or have limited time... I heard the voice of my neighbors and got involved. I'd like to pay that forward. Again, you have a lot of words and angst it seems.....but the point of the website is to share info. If you are interested in a dialogue, dial up the webpage and ask them to post your comments.... I'm sure they might be happy to provide a forum. You yourself are are not fostering a healthy dialogue with your use of negative words... The word divisive should be banned in LW as far as I'm concerned. If the website in question does not interact, then can i suggest further posting by yourself on one of the blogs, who welcome dialogue, or on Facebook, where a number of sites are available for your opinon sharing pleasure. Lake Worth Voice, and Lake Worth Live are two examples....anyone is welcome, and they'd love to hear from you.

You can't trust any web site whose author stays hidden in the shadows. It is truly ridiculous.

There has been entirely too much time spent discussing a clandestine web site. If you can't back your words by signing your name, then it is worthless no matter the content. Enough. Let's get on to serious business already.

Dear T.P.
Based on the following Oxford English Dictionary definitions; I beg to differ with you:

TRUTH
• the quality or state of being true
• (also the truth) that which is true or in accordance with fact or reality:

INFORMED

• having or showing knowledge of a particular subject or situation

EDUCATED
• having been educated

However, on this one I agree with you; wholeheartedly!

OPINION
• a view or judgment formed about something, not necessarily based on fact or knowledge

So here is to your “opinion” and here is to mine may we all always have the right to express them freely. To include those who hide behind an anonymous venue; as long as they post it as “opinion”.
Good night.

I'm glad you know how to use a dictionary. A Dictionary is OBJECTIVE(although they do list colloquial variances). You and I posting on a site is SUBJECTIVE....unless you back it up with truth. This is just healthy discussion, which can be good. Fortunately I did NOT have to look those up in the dictionary.... and I enjoy the dialogue...but do not want to fight with you... We are discussing the sharing of the truth on a website... Because Government is a dry truth, hopefully we can trust that what is posted is in fact a record of the TRUTH in that government.... and all the links on the site in question GO TO THE GOVERNMENT WEBSITE... so to attack the site, you attack the city records... Good Luck with that.

Anonymous said...

Ladies and gentlemen, if you want anyone to listen you can't be anonymous. Stand up for your convictions. Stop giving excuses that you have real links so that verifies your credibility. It doesn't. All you are in the long run is a cyber attacker, a coward amongst cowards. We have way too many of those in this town. Didn't you learn anything from Zacks? As Dustin would say, "Get real."

AGvocacy said...

Well it seems I have struck a nerve with my “subjective” opinion (sorry I know that is somewhat redundant). However I find it terribly amusing that I have been labeled as attacking, full of angst and accused of appearances and actions I have not made nor taken – all as a response to MY opinion. I have been told I use a “lot of words” then offered more places to post them; hmmmm…? What is even more laughable is this dialogue comes under the guise of a “healthy discussion”.

The website in question has a tagline that reads “Do you REALLY know your elected officials?” {emphasis theirs} and uses the word “truth” colloquially. They propose to be our “neighbors” and offer an opportunity to form “our own opinions” – yet they post pieces of information as a precursor and offer what can be found on the city website http://www.lakeworth.org/index.asp?Type=B_BASIC&SEC={92DDD349-58CC-4612-B5BA-3898CA0CC6AB} without all the quotes laden with ellipsis; they are transparent. I will agree on one point we are all “neighbors” and I myself welcome differing opinions; I do not call for a revocation of the website just for those involved to stand behind (not hide) behind their opinions and offer a source for rebuttal. You know, in order for ALL the “neighbors” to form their “own opinions”. (wink-wink, nudge-nudge) This has been fun, and as you are “pretty new” (just as are the two of the candidates in this political race) I welcome you to Lake Worth!!

Since a number of comments have been made about ellipsis on the information on TruthOutLW.com, I went to the archived audio on the LakeWorth.org and listen to the public comment from the page on Mayor Waterman. The transcription is accurate as to how the commentor spoke. Checking the followup comment by Waterman, she does begin to say the word "level" and then proceeds to say "a nice level." The new site appears to be documenting the exact speech of every person complete with all the pauses, ahs, and word repetition.

Lynn Anderson said...

Allison--
That's fine and dandy. However, if you are holding yourself up as the "truth," then the words extracted can't be just to hold one side of politics up to the scrutiny. The author must come out of the closet and not hide behind anonymous. I don't care how accurate the information, it will always be suspect because of the intent. I don't believe for one second that this will be fair and balanced, do you? That is not the purpose of this web site. That is all we are trying to say here. If there are multiple contributors, name them. If I wanted to listen to the exact speech or recall it, all I have to do is pull up the audio on the City of Lake Worth's web page.

So, this is to make certain people look bad all for a political purpose.

If you consider the other 4 blogs or so in this city, they are authored; we know who the people are; we know when it is opinion; we know when it is fact. To have an anonymous web site serves only one purpose--to build a case against certain figures and not hold yourself accountable--attack behind the veil. Everyone on the dais says stupid things from time to time--EVERYONE.

So, I don't care about accurate transcriptions. I care about standing up for your convictions--honesty, if you will. It's all about integrity in every thing that one does. That is what reporting is all about and that is what this "truthful" web site must do.

Because it is refined does not make it anything more than a political cyber attack site. Attach a name to it and make it "real." Then I say, good luck.
