Held at the Osborne gym, Commissioner Scott Maxwell did an excellent job coordinating this community meeting, the first of its kind that I can recall. We all felt that this is exactly what a commissioner should be doing--informing the public as to what's going on, not only in their community but in Lake Worth.
The Health Department spoke, never mentioning all the debris dumped on our landfill. There was an update from Reggie at For the Children, asking for money. Joel Rutskey talked about the Energy Audits that are "free" that will help save you money on your electric bill. Joe Kroll spoke on the Public Services Department and the PBSO gave a presentation. I missed Barbara Aubel and Ryan Anderson's presentation but heard it was very good.
Palm Beach County Commissioner Shelly Vana attended and gave out awards to Mark Parrilla, President of the Genesis Neighborhood Association and to Robert Waples, President of Residents of Lake Osborne Heights Neighborhood Association (ROLOH).
The individual plaques were inscribed as follows:

Beautiful write up on the Community Meeting. You are absolutely right in saying this is what all our commissioners should be doing. I find is sad how some commissioners can waste time researching and drafting a totally useless and powerless resolution, debate it for over an hour and 1/2 at a commission meeting, to ask another state to repeal one of their laws (SB1070) created to tackle their illegal immigration problem. I thought Ashton Kutchner was going to jump out from behind the Dias and yell "Punked" at any minute but unfortunately he didn't, it was for real. It is a refreshing breath of candor and sincerity from a commissioner keeping promises they make during their campaigns. Lyn I look forward to working together with you Katie, Robert and the rest of ROLOH to begin the initial planning stages for the 2nd District One Community Meeting. Here's to it being twice as good as the first! Talk with you soon.
