Groupies and Candidates

Comment Up
PB Post

Only one candidate for the November elections has officially registered; Laurence McNamara. Usually you see prospective candidates hanging around City Commission meetings all of a sudden when they have aspirations to run. Last night only brought forth McNamara, Wes Blackman and rumored to be candidate for Mayor, Greg Rice. When you don't see them all of a sudden, it means they have dropped out, are no longer considering running.

Greg, during public speaking, called all of us who attend meetings, "Groupies." That word started back when I was a kid and referred to women who followed "rockers" and their bands from city to city for, well, you know for what. It now has a more generic meaning. What Greg really meant to say is, those of us who go to city commission meetings as well as Board meetings, are passionate about our city and care enough to make the effort to find out first-hand as to what is going on. Is that what you meant, Greg?

Now I ask you, would you rather see a candidate who is interested in city business and makes the effort to attend meetings or one who never shows up or only shows up when he is thinking about running for office?

Lynn, you must have a better photo of me than that. Or, maybe I need to get a better make-up person. I need to ask Laurance what he thinks I might do about it.
The point I was making is that there’s only a handful of people who has or takes the time to get involved in what’s going on at city hall, even if it is only attending the commission meetings. When I go to our neighborhood association meetings it’s the same few faces there every month too.

There are more people than you think that listen to the meetings on the city’s web site so they can keep informed and still make a living or spend time with their family. Even with all the so called time saving devices we have today, (cell phones, e-mail, ect.) there’s still not enough time to do all the things we’d like to do. I do applauded you and the few others that sit in on the meetings and try to stay informed. Although sometime I wonder if we were at the same meeting the next day after some of the things I read on the blogs that supposedly took place the night before. Keep smiling!

It wouldn't matter to me if someone attended or did not attend the meetings. It doesn't matter at all.
Greg Rice would be a much better Mayor than McNamara would be.

I seldom go to commission meetings. I would never presume to know more than someone who does. How do you really understand what's going on unless you do? Read the Palm Beach Post? It matters a whole lot. I would never vote for someone who was only informed because of what someone else told them. That is just too too __

Why do you think so poster at 3:59?

I agree with Greg in applauding our involved citizens, whether they agree with my point of view on an issue or not. With our busy lives and just trying to make a living and take care of their families, most people need some kind of a "slap" to get them involved.I am proud to be able to say that more and more people in my neighborhood are seeing the benefits of knowing what is going on where they live. As the vice president of my homeowners association ,myself and our president, Robert, consider it our duty to have at least one of us at city Commission meetings so that we can report back to our neighbors.Stupid Groupies( people who don't agree with me ) or Brilliant Groupies ( people who agree with me ), at least we're all INVOLVED Groupies!!!!!Katie Mcgiveron

Too much, Greg running for Mayor. What a town. He will be some sort of a figure head out there for the paver group.

Mayor? Is this some joke?

Oh, okay, somebody can refer to Greg Rice running as a "joke", but we cannot say that about McNamara.
What a great screen-shot situation.

First of all, that poster was questioning the validity of Rice running for Mayor, not that he personally was a joke. When you attempted to post earlier today you actually called Mr. McNamara a "joke." That is the difference. You want to continue to belittle people in this city and it will NOT be done here. Leave it to your pit bulls.

I really should get up here more often. I could not hear the 8-4 meeting online at all. It was totally impossible to hear. If you are not at meetings you sure miss a hell of a lot. Greg is thinking about running? I thought he did commercials for bugs. He knows about as much as I do about what's going on. zero.

I'm curious to know exactly what neighborhood Mr Rice lives in? I assume it's the one in WPB where he has a homesteaded property and is also registered to vote. His "my neighborhood group" comment made me laugh out loud!

I would prefer a mayor who has demonstrated his/her committment and devotion to our city by actually living here. Mr Rice has demonstrated an interest in real estate speculation.

Certainly, I am not aware of all public comment he has made, but I do not recall ever hearing him say anything nice about Lake Worth. Please go home to WPB, Mr Rice.
