Beachfront and Golf Course Development Proposal

Commissioner McVoy shares letter from Law firm, Lewis, Longman & Walker P.A.

Regarding our beach

McVoy said that "It seems another commissioner (Mimi May) was wrong when she asserted that ‘any charter referenda would have nothing to do with proposals at the beach.’"

LLW represents the developer and they suggest referendum language in support of the Unsolicited Proposal submitted to the City on January 16, 2025, for the redevelopment of the City’s beachfront and golf course properties.

Lewis, Longman & Walker is requesting the following be on the agenda on the September 2 meeting:

1. Shall the City of Lake Worth Beach be permitted to enter into a 99-year lease over Cityowned property east of the A1A roadway, to permit the development of a hotel and infrastructure at the beachfront and casino property?
2. Shall the City of Lake Worth Beach be permitted to enter into a 99-year lease over Cityowned property west of A-1-A roadway to permit the development of a hotel and infrastructure at the golf course property?

If the Commission accepts the proposal in a contract, the Charter first must be modified to a longer lease term.

This is on the Agenda for the 9-2-25 meeting under New Business B to be voted on at the March 2026 election.

Read the letter

As I was unclear about what Commissioner McVoy had said about Commissioner May, he sent a text of explanation:

Sent from my iPhon Ok, finally getting back. I guess I did not write very clearly. In past meetings, Comm May has expressed that any charter amendments that the Commission would put on a ballot, ‘would not be related [specifically] to the Copperline/Horizon project.’ I was very skeptical of that assertion when I heard it. The letter that I fwded from the attorney for Copperline seemed to make it very clear that amendments, referenda, etc to be put on the March 2026 ballot would *exactly* be for the Copperline project. In my mind, that confirmed my earlier skepticism.

Do we want all this development? That is my question

Personally, I don't trust the Lake Worth City government to have ANYTHING to do with running or marketing any services
at the Beach. They have screwed this up horribly in the past, and a group "running" the beach needs to be a strong team with a wide pool of diverse talents - our commissioners CANNOT work as a team..and there are to many agendas at play with people that think they have the right to do what they want, even when this is opposite the will of the voters. If the Hotel group got in...they would have a contract they would have to follow or lose everything......If only we could have a contract like that with City government ;:)

I only know that Lake Worth used to be a very nice town, and it isn't a very nice town any longer.

Katie Mcgiveron here. I'm not going anonymous . IF this is the proposal I heard at my neighborhood meeting this is what was put forward. A "small " 150 bed hotel on the south side of the beach. A parking garage and courtyard space where the lower parking lot now is. The Casino bldg would still be there. A beach front "Prominade" . Want to just cruise by the beach and look at the ocean ? Nope .No more. You can park in the parking garage and go from there. (A view of the ocean in South Florida that you don't have to pay for is more rare than the Dodo). So, again, no more beach cruising! As for the pool, it goes to the north part of town by the ball fields. A water extravaganza ! Another hotel on the south part of the golf course facing Lucerene as you come off the bridge. Current Beach/golf club demolished. New Golf course developed by Jack Nicklaus. Isn't this the same entity that wanted to put a golf course in Johnathan Dickinson State Park ? Destroying the ecosystem in the process? There was a lot of talk about "revenue streams " . These hotels would supposedly guarantee Lake Worth millions in funding to offset the doomsday scenario of no property taxes from Desantis plan to get rid of property tax in Florida. Any time the people in the room raised a concern they were told "Oh, don't worry, this is all very fluid right now. Nothing is set in stone. RIGHHHHHT ! The attitude was ,YET AGAIN , look what great things we're offering your town !!!! ALL WE WANT IS YOUR BEACHFRONT PROERTY !!!!! What is it about Lake Worth city Commissions that make them almost all willing to swallow whatever fucking snake oil these greedy bastards want to pour down your throats??? Can you all PLEASE, for about the twentieth time in the last twenty -five years tell these grifters to hit the road? I for one am getting tired of this Shit .

Grifters being the Operative word here!

The Developers inform a small percentage of our residents as to what they would do, and how we could be guaranteed this...And the Commissioners & Mayor inform a SMALL percentage of the residents as to what they would do---but the informing is grossly insufficient, and with no accountability. Historically in Lake Worth, neither group has been trustworthy, and the voters have rarely had a clue as to what the agenda has actually been. This needs to stop. We need complete information TO ALL VOTERS and we need accountability for a City government that promises the world and delivers only what they feel like.

No way would turning over our beach front and golf course property to anyone on a 99 year lease is acceptable to me. Control over our most valuable assets for 100 years--nope. I am worried that if they put this on a ballot initiative in March, that it will be voted in as most people vote in anything that the city is behind.

So ANON (of course ) at 7:10 ,Would one less FUCK here or SHIT there make you wring your hands a little less about the grifters that want to take away our beach front from the public ??
