Federal agents uncover massive identity theft scheme
When U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents raided Glenn Valley Foods in Omaha, Nebraska, they thought they were conducting a routine worksite enforcement operation.What they discovered was far worse than anyone imagined.
Approximately 70 illegal aliens weren’t just working without authorization – they were stealing the identities of American citizens and destroying their lives in the process.
The crime spree left more than 100 innocent Americans facing what federal investigators described as "devastating financial, emotional and legal consequences."
Mark Zito, special agent in charge of Homeland Security Investigations Kansas City, didn’t mince words when describing the scope of the criminal enterprise.
"There have been individuals who have gone on the record recently referring to the identity thieves we arrested last week as ‘good, hardworking, and honest,’" Zito said. Gee, I wonder what political party they belonged to.
