According to Alternet, Trump declared his intention to dismiss Jack Smith, the special counsel currently prosecuting him, should he return to power.

In a recent podcast conversation with Hugh Hewitt, Trump conveyed his resolve to remove Smith immediately upon reclaiming the presidency. The Washington Post highlighted this statement in its coverage of the interview.

Trump denigrated Smith during the interview, labeling him as "corrupted," which Trump sees as justification for the intended dismissal. Nonetheless, actual authority to discharge a special counsel lies with the Attorney General, not the president.

Despite legal norms, Trump appeared unfazed, expressing confidence in his ability to maneuver the situation. "Oh, it’s so easy. It’s so easy," he affirmed regarding the removal of Smith.
